Abstract

Methods, devices, and products are disclosed for recording media. An input is received via a user interface to record media. An entry is created in a recording schedule to record the media. The recording schedule is sent to a restoration server, such that the recording schedule is mirrored to the restoration server.

21. A method for recording media, comprising:

transmitting by a user device a catalog to a restoration server, the catalog identifying media;

transmitting a notification causing the restoration server to simultaneously record media while the user device is recording the media, wherein the notification indicates when the media is being recorded on the user device.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the catalog comprises personal media.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the personal media comprises media that is not obtainable elsewhere.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein the personal media include home movies, still images, and unique media.

25. The method of claim 21, further comprising transmitting a preference that indicates what items in the catalog are to be tagged for restoration by the restoration server.

26. A method for recording media, comprising:

transmitting by a user device a catalog to a restoration server, the catalog identifying media;

wherein the catalog maintains recorded items, the catalog comprising;

currently available media, and

personal media which is stored on the user device and not currently available.

27. The method of claim 26, further comprising responsive to the restoration server requesting, from the user device, the personal media which is stored on the user device and not currently available, transmitting the personal media by the user device to the restoration server for recording a second copy of the personal media by the restoration server.

28. The method of claim 26, wherein the personal media comprises media that is not obtainable elsewhere and the personal media include home movies, still images, and unique media.

29. The method of claim 26, comprising transmitting a preference that indicates what items in the catalog are to be tagged for restoration by the restoration server.

30. A device, comprising:

memory for storing a program; and

a processor communicating with a user interface; and

the processor, functionally coupled to the memory, being responsive to computer-executable instructions contained in the program and operative for;

transmitting a notification causing the restoration server to simultaneously record media while the user device is recording the media, wherein the notification indicates when the media is being recorded on a device.

31. The device of claim 30, further comprising the processor transmitting a catalog to the restoration server, the catalog identifying the media.

32. The device of claim 30, further comprising the processor maintaining a catalog of recorded items, the catalog comprising:

currently available media, and

personal media which is only stored on the device and not currently available.

33. The device of claim 32, further comprising responsive to the restoration server requesting from the device the personal media which is only stored on the device and not currently available, the processor transmitting the personal media to the restoration server for recording a second copy of the personal media by the restoration server.

34. The device of claim 32, further comprising the processor transmitting a preference that indicates what items in the catalog are to be tagged for restoration by the restoration server.

35. The device of claim 32, wherein the processor receives a preference via the user interface that indicates what items in the catalog shall be tagged for restoration.

36. The device of claim 32, wherein the processor receives a package of media that may appeal to the user from the restoration server.
