Abstract

The invention provides a cementing composition for use in oilfield application, wherein a significant amount of cement is left intentionally un-hydrated when the cement is set; such that said amount of un-hydrated cement becomes hydrated when the set cement is damaged.

Claims

1. A cementing composition for use in oilfield application, comprising a cement, an emulsion and water;

wherein emulsion allows an amount of cement to be left un-hydrated when the cement is set; and

allows said amount of un-hydrated cement to become hydrated when the set cement is damaged.

2. The cementing composition of claim 1, wherein the emulsion is an oil-in-water emulsion and is stabilized with a surfactant.

3. The cementing composition of claim 2, wherein the emulsion contains up to 50% by volume of oil.

4. The cementing composition of claim 1, wherein the emulsion is an aqueous suspension of latex particles.

5. The cementing composition of claim 4, wherein the latex particles is a styrene-butadiene latex.

6. The cementing composition of claim 4, wherein the suspension contains up to 45% by volume of latex.

7. The cementing composition of claim 1, wherein the emulsion is a suspension of nano organic solid or nano inorganic solid.

8. The cementing composition of claim 1, wherein the emulsion is a mixture of water and solvent, wherein the solvent is highly miscible and does not react with the cement.

13. The cementing composition according to claim 1, further comprising flexible particles.

14. The cementing composition according to claim 1, further comprising swellable particles wherein particles are swellable with hydrocarbon (gas and/or oil) and/or water.

15. The cementing composition according to claim 1, further comprising flexible additives and/or fibers to improve the toughness and to prevent crack creation and propagation.

16. A method of cementing a well, using a cementing composition according to claim 1.

21. The composition of claim 5, wherein the suspension contains up to 45% by volume of styrene-butadiene latex.

22. The composition of claim 4, further comprising flexible particles.

23. A method of cementing a well, using a cementing composition according to claim 7.

24. A method of cementing a well, using a cementing composition according to claim 8.

A method of cementing a well comprising injecting a cement composition into a wellbore, the cement composition comprising a cement, an emulsion comprising an aqueous suspension of latex particles, and swellable particles, wherein the swellable particles are swellable with hydrocarbon and/or water.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the composition further comprises flexible particles.

19. A method of cementing a well comprising injecting a cement composition into a wellbore, the cement composition comprising a cement, an emulsion comprising an aqueous suspension of latex particles, and flexible particles to improve toughness and to prevent crack creation and propagation.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the composition further comprises swellable particles.
