Abstract

An apparatus for providing access to a media item based at least in part on a route may include a processor. The processor may be configured to receive a start location of a mobile device. The processor may be further configured to receive a route. In this regard, the route may have been determined based at least in part on points of interest and the start location. The processor may be further configured to provide for access to a media item if a current location of the mobile device remains on the route. Associated methods and computer program products may also be provided.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving a start location of a mobile device;

receiving a route, the route having been determined based at least in part on points of interest and the start location; and

providing for access to a media item if a current location of the mobile device remains on the route.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a media item type selection;

and wherein receiving the route includes receiving the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, the points of interest having been selected based at least in part on the media item type selection.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a media item type selection;

and wherein receiving the route includes selecting the media item based at least in part on the media item type selection.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the route includes receiving the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, and at least one of the points of interest having a common characteristic with the media item.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising defining the points of interest, wherein at least one point of interest is defined in response to advertising being sold in association with the at least one of the points of interest.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing for a display of information associated with the points of interest.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the route includes receiving the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on characteristics of the media item.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the route includes receiving the route, the route having been selected from a plurality of routes, each route in the plurality of routes being determined based at least in part on a different set of points of interest, and each route in the plurality of routes being associated with different media items.

9. An apparatus comprising a processor, the processor configured to:

receive a start location of a mobile device;

receive a route, the route having been determined based at least in part on points of interest and the start location; and

provide for access to a media item if a current location of the mobile device remains on the route.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor is further configured to receive a media item type selection;

and wherein the processor configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, the points of interest having been selected based at least in part on the media item type selection.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor is further configured to receive a media item type selection;

and wherein the processor configured to receive a route includes being configured to select the media item based at least in part on the media item type selection.

12. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, and at least one of the points of interest having a common characteristic with the media item.

13. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor is further configured to define the points of interest, wherein at least one point of interest is defined in response to advertising being sold in association with the at least one of the points of interest.

14. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor is further configured to provide for a display of information associated with the points of interest.

15. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on characteristics of the media item.

16. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the processor configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been selected from a plurality of routes, each route in the plurality of routes being determined based at least in part on a different set of points of interest, and each route in the plurality of routes being associated with different media items.

17. The apparatus of claim 9 further comprising a display, and wherein the processor is further configured to provide for outputting the route on the display.

18. A computer program product comprising at least one computer-readable storage medium having executable computer-readable program code instructions stored therein, the computer-readable program code instructions comprising:

first program code instructions configured to receive a start location of a mobile device;

second program code instructions configured to receive a route, the route having been determined based at least in part on points of interest and the start location; and

third program code instructions configured to provide for access to a media item if a current location of the mobile device remains on the route.

19. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the computer-readable program code instructions further comprise fourth program code instructions configured to receive a media item type selection;

and wherein the second program code instructions configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, the points of interest having been selected based at least in part on the media item type selection.

20. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the computer-readable program code instructions further comprise fourth program code instructions configured to receive a media item type selection;

and wherein the second program code instructions configured to receive the route includes being configured to select the media item based at least in part on the media item type selection.

21. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the second program code instructions configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, and at least one of the points of interest having a common characteristic with the media item.

22. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the computer-readable program code instructions further comprise fourth program code instructions configured to define the points of interest, wherein at least one point of interest is defined in response to advertising being sold in association with the at least one of the points of interest.

23. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the computer-readable program code instructions further comprise fourth program code instructions configured to provide for a display of information associated with the points of interest.

24. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the second program code instructions configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on characteristics of the media item.

25. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the second program code instructions configured to receive the route includes being configured to receive the route, the route having been selected from a plurality of routes, each route in the plurality of routes being determined based at least in part on a different set of points of interest, and each route in the plurality of routes being associated with different media items.

26. An apparatus comprising:

means for receiving a start location of a mobile device;

means for receiving a route, the route having been determined based at least in part on points of interest and the start location; and

means for providing for access to a media item if a current location of the mobile device remains on the route.

27. The apparatus of claim 26 further comprising means for receiving a media item type selection;

and wherein means for receiving the route includes means for receiving the route, the route having been determined based at least in part on the points of interest, the points of interest having been selected based at least in part on the media item type selection.
