Abstract

A method and apparatus for changing settable email parameters in a system supporting email using a wireless device, the system including a wireless electronic device and a wireless network. Provided is a way of changing email settings on the wireless device, and storing those changes on both the device and, as needed or desired, on the wireless network. The wireless network and wireless device are adapted to wirelessly communicate with each other.

Claims

1. A wireless handheld device comprising:

a wireless communications port;

a memory;

a display;

at least one input device;

a messages application, stored in the memory; and

a processor responsive to input from the at least one input device and providing output signals to the display and to the wireless communications port, the messages application and the processor being structured to;

detect, at the at least one input device, input of an email setting of the messages application, and

send, through the wireless communications port, the inputted email setting to a server to store the detected email setting with an account associated with the wireless handheld device.

2. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an email redirection setting.

3. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is a send email to handheld setting.

4. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is a save copy in a sent folder setting.

5. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an email setting associated with saving a copy of a sent email in a sent folder.

6. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an auto signature email setting.

7. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is a use auto signature setting.

8. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an out-of-office reply email setting.

9. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is a use out of office reply setting.

10. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the server is a wireless enterprise server which stores the detected email setting in an email settings database store.

11. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the server is a mail server.

12. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the account is an email account.

13. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the account is an account in a mail server.

14. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an enterprise email setting.

15. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an email filter setting.

16. The wireless handheld device of claim 1 wherein the detected email setting is an email folder redirection setting.

17. A method of detecting and storing email settings, said method comprising:

detecting input of an email setting at a wireless handheld device; and

wirelessly sending the detected email setting from the wireless handheld device to a server; and

storing by the server the detected email setting with an account associated with the wireless handheld device.

18. The method of claim 17 further comprising:

employing as the server a mail server; and

employing as the account is an email account.

19. A system comprising:

a server; and

a wireless handheld device comprising;

a wireless communications port,

a memory,

a display,

at least one input device,

a messages application, stored in the memory, and

a processor responsive to input from the at least one input device and providing output signals to the display and to the wireless communications port, the messages application and the processor being structured to;

detect, at the at least one input device, input of an email setting of the messages application, and

send, through the wireless communications port, the inputted email setting to the server,

wherein the server is structured to store the detected email setting with an account associated with the wireless handheld device.

20. The system of claim 19 wherein the server is a wireless enterprise server or a mail server.
