Abstract

An apparatus such as a cordless telephone handset is capable of detecting key words within received data feeds. According to an exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes an input for receiving a data feed, and a controller for determining whether content of the received data feed includes a key word. If the controller determines that the content includes the key word, a signal is generated to notify a user.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

an input for receiving a data feed; and

a controller for determining whether content of said received data feed includes a key word, wherein if said controller determines that said content includes said key word, said controller generates a signal to notify a user.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said signal activates an indicator.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, said controller inactivates said indicator in response to an input from said user to access said received data feed.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said received data feed includes only text.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said received data feed is a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) data feed.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said apparatus does not include a web browser.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein said apparatus includes at least one of a base module and a telephone handset.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein said received data feed is a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) data feed.

8. A method, comprising:

receiving a data feed;

determining whether content of said received data feed includes a key word; and

generating a signal to notify a user if said content includes said key word.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein said signal activates an indicator.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising a step of inactivating said indicator in response to an input from said user to access said received data feed.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein said received data feed includes only text.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein said method is implemented using an apparatus that does not include a web browser.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein said apparatus includes at least one of a base module and a telephone handset.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

means for receiving a data feed; and

means for determining whether content of said received data feed includes a key word, wherein if said determining means determines that said content includes said key word, said determining means generates a signal to notify a user.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein said signal activates an indicator.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein said determining means inactivates said indicator in response to an input from said user to access said received data feed.

18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein said received data feed includes only text.

19. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein said received data feed is a Real Simple Syndication (RSS) data feed.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein said apparatus does not include a web browser.
