Abstract

A method of controlling a mobile terminal, and which includes displaying a data list including at least one data item in a display window of a touch screen on the terminal, displaying at least one icon corresponding to a first application that is executed by the terminal, displaying a graphic user interface (GUI) corresponding to the first application on the display window of the touch screen as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen, and controlling at least one of a position and a size of the displayed data list such that a region where the GUI is displayed and a region where the data list is displayed are not overlapped with each other when the GUI is displayed as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen.

Claims

1. A method of controlling a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

displaying a data list including at least one data item in a display window of a touch screen on the terminal;

displaying at least one icon corresponding to a first application that is executed by the terminal;

displaying a graphic user interface (GUI) corresponding to the first application on the display window of the touch screen as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen; and

controlling at least one of a position and a size of the displayed data list such that a region where the GUI is displayed and a region where the data list is displayed are not overlapped with each other when the GUI is displayed as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen.

The method of claim 1, wherein the controlling step further comprises arranging the at least one data item included in the data list according to a predetermined standard such that the region where the GUI is displayed and the region where the data list is displayed are not overlapped with each other when the GUI is displayed.

The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one data item includes a plurality of data items, and the predetermined standard assigns a higher priority to data items related to the first application among the plurality of data items such that the higher priority data items are displayed more discriminately than the other data items.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one data item includes a plurality of data items, and

wherein the arranging step further comprises grouping the plurality of data items into a plurality of categories.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed; and

executing a function provided by the first application using the dragged and dropped at least one data item.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first application corresponds to one of a video telephony application, a message transmission application and a web browsing application, and the data list relates to at least one of text, still images, moving images, a phonebook and web connecting routes.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein when the first application corresponds to the video telephony application, the method further comprises:

receiving a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed for the video telephony application; and

transmitting the at least one item to a recipient party included in the video telephony application.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein when the first application corresponds to the message transmission application, the method further comprises:

receiving a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed for the message transmission application; and

inserting the at least one data item into an appropriate field corresponding to the at least one data item included in the GUI for the message transmission application.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein when the first application corresponds to the web browsing application and the at least one data item is a web connecting route, the method further comprises:

receiving a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed for the web browsing application; and

automatically executing a web page corresponding to the web connecting route in the GUI for the web browser application.

The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying the icon step includes displaying a plurality of icons corresponding to a plurality of applications on edge portions of the display window, each of the plurality of applications corresponding to different applications that can be executed on the terminal, and

wherein the displaying the GUI step includes displaying a GUI for each of the plurality of applications as a corresponding icon is touched and dragged toward an inside portion of the display window.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying the GUI step further comprises unraveling the GUI as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen.

12. A mobile terminal, comprising:

a display unit configured to display a data list including at least one data item in a display window of a touch screen on the terminal, to display at least one icon corresponding to a first application that is executed by the terminal, and to display a graphic user interface (GUI) corresponding to the first application on the display window of the touch screen as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen; and

a controller configured to control at least one of a position and a size of the displayed data list on the display unit such that a region where the GUI is displayed and a region where the data list is displayed are not overlapped with each other when the GUI is displayed as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen.

The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the controller is further configured to arrange the at least one data item included in the data list according to a predetermined standard such that the region where the GUI is displayed and the region where the data list is displayed are not overlapped with each other when the GUI is displayed.

The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the at least one data item includes a plurality of data items, and the predetermined standard assigns a higher priority to data items related to the first application among the plurality of data items such that the display unit displays the higher priority data items more discriminately than the other data items.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the at least one data item includes a plurality of data items, and

wherein the controller is further configured to group the plurality of data items into a plurality of categories.

16. The mobile terminal of claim 12, further comprising:

a receiving unit configured to receive a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed,

wherein the controller is further configured to execute a function provided by the first application using the dragged and dropped at least one data item.

The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the first application corresponds to one of a video telephony application, a message transmission application and a web browsing application, and the data list relates to at least one of text, still images, moving images, a phonebook and web connecting routes.

The mobile terminal of claim 17, wherein when the first application corresponds to the video telephony application, the controller is further configured to receive a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed for the video telephony application, and to transmit the at least one item to a recipient party included in the video telephony application.

The mobile terminal of claim 17, wherein when the first application corresponds to the message transmission application, the controller is further configured to receive a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed for the message transmission application, and to insert the at least one data item into an appropriate field corresponding to the at least one data item included in the GUI for the message transmission application.

The mobile terminal of claim 17, wherein when the first application corresponds to the web browsing application and the at least one data item is a web connecting route, the controller is further configured to receive a selection signal corresponding to a dragging and dropping touch operation of said at least one data item from the data list to the region where the GUI is displayed for the web browsing application, and to automatically execute a web page corresponding to the web connecting route in the GUI for the web browser application.

The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the display unit is further configured to display a plurality of icons corresponding to a plurality of applications on edge portions of the display window, each of the plurality of applications corresponding to different applications that can be executed on the terminal, and to display a GUI for each of the plurality of applications as a corresponding icon is touched and dragged toward a inside portion of the display window.

22. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the display unit is further configured to unravel the GUI as the icon is touched and dragged on the touch screen.
