Abstract

A method for controlling a map is provided. The method comprises displaying a map on a display module of a mobile terminal and registering a point on the map, selected by using at least one of a user input unit and a sensing unit, as a shortcut point and displaying a shortcut icon on the map.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a map displayed in a mobile terminal, the method comprising:

displaying the map on a display module of the mobile terminal;

receiving input on at least one point on the map through at least a user input unit or a sensing unit of the mobile terminal;

registering the at least one point on the map as a shortcut; and

displaying a shortcut icon on the map, the shortcut icon being associated with the registered at least one point.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein an area of the map including the registered at least one point associated with the shortcut icon is displayed on the display module when the shortcut icon is selected through the at least the user input unit or the sensing unit.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein when a first shortcut icon and a second shortcut icon are selected through at least the user input unit or the sensing unit, an area of the map including a first point associated with the first shortcut icon and a second point associated with the second shortcut icon is displayed on the display module.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising;

searching a first route between the first point and the second point; and

displaying the first route on the map.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

receiving input from at least the user input unit or the sensing unit indicating that a third point associated with a third shortcut icon is to be included in a second route, the third point being an intermediate point between the first point and the second point;

searching the second route through the first point, the second point, and the third point; and

displaying the second route on the map.

6. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

receiving input from at least the user input unit or the sensing unit indicating that a third point associated with a third shortcut icon is to be included in a second route, the third point being a destination point;

searching the second route through the first point, the second point, and the third point; and

displaying the second route on the map.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

generating reduced images of the first shortcut icon, the second shortcut icon, and the third shortcut icon; and

displaying the reduced images on the first point, the second point, and the third point for the first route and the second route.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the shortcut icon is selectable through a touch on the map or a proximity dragging to the map.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a photograph or a frame of a video on the display module, the photograph or the video being associated with the at least one point; and

generating the shortcut icon by using an image corresponding to the photograph or the frame of the video.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the shortcut icon is generated using at least a photograph, a frame of a video, or text.

11. A mobile terminal comprising:

a display module for displaying a map and a shortcut icon on the map;

at least a user input unit or a sensing unit for receiving a user input; and

a controller configured to register at least one point as a shortcut and to generate the shortcut icon, the shortcut icon being associated with the registered at least one point.

12. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to display an area of the map including the registered at least one point associated with the shortcut icon on the display module when the shortcut icon is selected through at least the user input unit or the sensing unit.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein when a first shortcut icon and a second shortcut icon are selected through at least the user input unit or the sensing unit, the controller is configured to display an area of the map including a first point associated with the first shortcut icon and a second point associated with the second shortcut icon on the display module.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the controller is configured to search a first route between the first point and the second point and to display the first route on the map.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to search and to display a second route including the first point, the second point, and a third point, the third point being associated with a third shortcut icon and being an intermediate point between the first point and the second point, wherein the controller is configured to search and to display the second route upon the third shortcut icon being moved onto the map through at least the user input unit or the sensing unit.

The mobile terminal of claim 14, wherein the controller is configured to search and to display a second route including the first point, the second point, and a third point, the third point being associated with a third shortcut icon and being a destination point, wherein the controller is configured to search and to display the second route upon the third shortcut icon being moved onto the map through at least the user input unit or the sensing unit.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 16, wherein the controller is configured to generate reduced images of the first shortcut icon, the second shortcut icon, and the third shortcut icon and is configured to display the reduced images on the first point, the second point, and the third point for the first route and the second route.

18. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to determine that the shortcut icon is selected when the shortcut icon is touched or is proximity-dragged to the map through at least the user input unit or the sensing unit.

19. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to display a photograph or a frame of a video on the display module, to register a point on the map associated with the photograph or the video as a shortcut, and to generate the shortcut icon by using an image corresponding to the photograph or the frame of the video.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 11, wherein the controller is configured to generate the shortcut icon using at least a photograph, a frame of a video, or text.
