Abstract

A device for treating GERD is provided. The device includes a device body capable of at least partially preventing reflux of stomach content to the esophagus while enabling flow of esophageal content around said device body and into the stomach.

26. A device for reducing gastric reflux comprising a device body and an anchor for anchoring said device body within or below the esophagus, said device body being configured for:

(i) at least partially preventing reflux of stomach content into the esophagus; and

(ii) elastically collapsing to enable flow of esophageal content around said device body and into the stomach.

27. The device of claim 26, wherein said device body is hollow and capable collapsing under an LES closure force.

28. The device of claim 27, wherein said device body is a cone or cylinder.

29. The device of claim 27, wherein said collapsing is in the radial direction.

30. The device of claim 27, wherein said collapsing is caused by elastic deformation of at least a portion of said device body.

31. The device of claim 28, wherein said cone or cylinder is capable of radially expanding under reflux of stomach content.

32. The device of claim 31, wherein said radially expanding is limited by an esophageal lumen.

33. The device of claim 26, wherein said device body is anchored in the esophagus and traverses the LES.

34. The device of claim 26, wherein said device body is anchored at two or less points to esophageal tissue.

35. The device of claim 26, wherein said device body is anchored to an esophageal or stomach tissue using at least one tether.

36. The device of claim 35, wherein said at least one tether is an elastic tether.

37. The device of claim 27, wherein said device body does not substantially resist natural LES closure.

38. The device of claim 27, wherein said device body elastically and dynamically expands to fill the open area of the esophageal lumen.

39. The device of claim 27, wherein said device body expands to its most open configuration when the LES is open.

40. A method of reducing gastric reflux comprising anchoring a device having a device body anchored to a tissue at or above an LES, said device body being configured for:

(i) at least partially preventing reflux of stomach content into the esophagus; and

(ii) elastic collapse to thereby enable flow of esophageal content around said device body and into the stomach.

41. The method of claim 40, wherein said device body is a hollow elastic cone or cylinder capable of radially collapsing under flow of said esophageal content.

42. The method of claim 40, wherein said anchoring is effected by attaching a top portion of said device body to a wall tissue of said esophagus.

43. The method of claim 40, wherein said anchoring is effected by folding esophageal tissue around an anchor element.

44. A method of reducing gastric reflux comprising a device having a collapsible device body that elastically and dynamically expands in an open esophageal lumen and collapses under the pressure of a contracting LES.

45. The method of claim 44, wherein said device body at least partially collapses when esophageal contents flow around said device body in the direction of the stomach.
