Abstract

A tamper evident package for food products is provided having a tray and a lid, which may or may not be permanently attached to each other, and includes a plastic tray for receiving a plastic lid for mating the lid and the tray, wherein the plastic lid is integrally formed with a plastic tear away band at the periphery of the lid, and a perforated section on the lid removably connects the lid and the tear away band in order to tear away the band from the lid.

Claims

1. A tamper evident plastic package for food products having a tray and a lid, which are not permanently attached to each other, comprising:

a) a plastic tray for receiving a plastic lid for mating the lid and the tray;

b) said plastic lid integrally formed with a plastic tear away band at the periphery of said lid; and

c) a perforated section removably connecting said lid and said tear away band to tear away said band from said lid.

2. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said lid and said integrally formed tear away band are formed by a thermo forming process.

3. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said plastic tear away band extends along the outer periphery of said lid.

4. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said perforated section is in the shape of a wave-form, zig-zag, saw-tooth or a straight line.

5. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said plastic lid includes a tab for lifting the lid away from said tray after said tear away band has been removed.

6. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said lids are dome shaped lids or flat lids.

7. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said package has any of the following shapes:

rectangular, square, round, oval, triangular, hexagonal, or octagonal.

8. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said package is formed of any of the following plastic materials:

HDPE, PET, PP, PS, and PLA (poly lactic acid).

9. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said tear away band extends along the entire periphery of the lid.

10. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said perforated section is adjacent to the outer periphery of said lid.

11. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 1, wherein said lid is re-closeable for reuse.

12. A tamper evident package for food products having a tray and a lid, which are connected by a hinge, comprising:

a) a plastic tray for receiving a plastic lid for mating the lid and the trayl;

b) said plastic lid integrally formed with a plastic tear away band at the periphery of said lid; and

c) a perforated section removably connecting said lid and said tear away band to tear away said band from said lid.

13. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said lid and said tear away band are formed by a thermo forming process.

14. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said plastic tear away band extends along the outer periphery of said lid.

15. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said perforated section is in the shape of a wave-form, zig-zag, saw-tooth or a straight line.

16. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said plastic lid includes a tab for lifting the lid away from said tray after said tear away band has been removed.

17. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said lids are dome shaped lids or flat lids.

18. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said package has any of the following shapes:

rectangular, square, round, oval, triangular, hexagonal, or octagonal.

19. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said package is formed of any of the following plastic materials:

HDPE, PET, PP, PS, and PLA (poly lactic acid).

20. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said tear away band extends at least 270 degrees along the periphery of the lid.

21. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said perforated section is adjacent to the outer periphery of said lid.

22. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said lid is re-closeable for reuse.

23. A tamper evident package in accordance with claim 12, wherein said tear away band is formed with a different color in order to distinguish it from the rest of the package.

24. A tamper evident plastic package for consumer products having a tray and a lid, which are not permanently attached to each other, comprising:

a) a plastic tray for receiving a plastic lid for mating the lid and the tray;

b) said plastic lid integrally formed with a plastic tear away band at the periphery of said lid; and

c) a perforated section removably connecting said lid and said tear away band to tear away said band from said lid.
