Abstract

A method for generating a ring tone for a given caller based on a prior conversation with that caller. A portion of a conversation with a given caller is recorded and stored in memory as a ring tone. When a subsequent call is received from the same caller, identified by caller ID, the ring tone is played, alerting the user to the incoming call as well as the context of their prior communication. In alternative embodiments of the invention, a prior textual or video conversation is used as the basis for a ring tone, and/or the ‘ring tone’ is delivered by other than audio means. The invention is capable of implementation in telecommunications systems such as cellular, local exchange, and VOIP, and in combination with other forms of internet-based telecommunication.

Claims

1. A method for generating customized event notifications, said method including the following steps:

processing a communication event and related data;

associating said communication event with an identification;

storing said communication event, said related data and said identification in memory;

receiving a second communication event;

associating said second communication with a second identification;

comparing said identification and said second identification;

reconveying all or a portion of said communication event if said identification and said second identification are related.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said communication event is selected from the group of:

a telephonic conversation, a facsimile, a calendar event, an email, an instant message, a short message service text or chat, a social networking group, or a virtual world environment.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said second communication event is selected from tile group of:

a telephonic conversation, a facsimile, a calendar event, an email, an instant message, a short message service text or chat, a social networking group, or a virtual world environment.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said identification is an internet protocol address.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said reconveying processes a textual communication into an audible communication.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said reconveying is as a ring tone.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein said storing of said identification and said related data is in a relational database system.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein said identification relates one or more users to their unique one or more types of said communication events.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

presenting a user with a user interface for configuring and controlling said customized event notification.

10. A method of generating a customized event notification, said method including the following steps,

receiving a communication event;

associating said communication event with a first identification;

storing said communication event and said first identification in memory;

receiving a second communication event;

associating said second communication event with a second identification;

searching said memory for a relation between said first identification and said second identification, wherein if a relationship exists, further;

retrieving all or a subset of said communication event;

reconveying said all or subset of said communication event.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein said communication event is selected from the group of:

a telephonic conversation, a facsimile, a calendar events an email, an instant message, a short message service text or chat, a social networking group, or a virtual world environment.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein said reconveying processes a textual communication into an audible communication.

13. The method of claim 10 wherein said reconveying is as a ring tone.

14. The method of claim 10 wherein said first identification relates one or more users to their unique one or more types of said communication events.

15. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

presenting a user with a user interface for configuring and controlling said customized event notification.

16. The method of claim 10 wherein said reconveying processing an audible communication into a textual communication.

17. A system to generate a customized event notification comprising:

a communication device;

a processing device for processing data associated with said communication device;

a storage device associated with said processing device for storing said processed data;

a reconveying device;

said processing device configured to transmit all or a set of said processed data to said reconveying device, wherein said processing device is further adapted to relate two communication events wherein a first event is stored in said storage device and a second event causes said reconveying device to reconvey said all or set of said processed data related to said stored first event.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein said communication device is selected from the group of:

a phone, a facsimile machine, a digital calendar, an email program, an instant message capable program, a short message service text or chat capable device, a social networking group program, or a virtual world environment program.

19. The system of claim 17 wherein said storage device implements a relational database management system on a general purpose computer.

20. The system of claim 17 wherein said reconveying device is a speaker.
