Abstract

An access point detects a presence of a first device having a device identifier in a femtozone associated with the access point. The access point matches the device identifier with an identifier associated with corresponding applications and activates a set of applications associated with the device identifier.

Claims

1. A method performed by an access point, comprising;

detecting a presence of a first device having a device identifier in a femtozone associated with the access point;

matching the device identifier with an identifier associated with corresponding applications; and

activating a set of applications associated with the device identifier.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first device comprises a handset.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising deactivating the set of applications when the presence of the first device is not detected.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein matching comprises looking up the device identifier in a database that is accessible to the access point.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein activating an application in the set of applications comprises changing a value of a usage flag associated with the application from “

off”

to “

on”

, and deactivating an application in the set of applications comprises changing a value of a usage flag associated with the application from “

on”

to “

off”

.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one application in the set of activated applications associated with the device identifier runs on one or more devices chosen from a group comprising the access point, the first device, a second device associated with a home network attached to the access point, and a network server communicating with the access point.

7. A computer program product, tangibly embodied in a computer-readable storage medium, for causing a processor to:

detect a presence of a device having a device identifier in a femtozone associated with the access point;

match the device identifier with an identifier associated with corresponding applications; and

activate a set of applications associated with the device identifier.

8. The computer program product of claim 7, wherein the device comprises a handset.

9. The computer program product of claim 7, for causing the processor to deactivate the set of applications when the presence of the device is not detected.

10. The computer program product of claim 7, wherein matching comprises looking up the device identifier in a database that is accessible to the access point.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

an access point associated with a Femto zone;

a detector configured to detect a device in the Femto zone, the Femto zone being associated with a device identifier that matches an identifier in the Femto zone; and

a processor configured to activate a set of software applications in response to detection of the device.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the device comprises a handset.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the processor is further configured to deactivate the set of applications when the presence of the device is not detected.

14. A method performed by an access point, comprising:

detecting a presence of a first device having a device identifier in a Femto zone associated with the access point;

matching the device identifier with an identifier associated with an auxiliary application;

activating the auxiliary application associated with the identifier that interacts with one or more device applications; and

creating a data connection between the auxiliary application and the first device.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising deactivating the auxiliary application and terminating the data connection between the auxiliary application and the first device when the presence of the device is not detected by the detector.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the auxiliary application associated with the device identifier runs on a device chosen from a group comprising the access point and a second device attached to a home network attached to the access point.

17. A computer program product, tangibly embodied in a computer-readable storage medium, for causing a processor to:

detect a presence of a device having a device identifier in a Femto zone associated with the access point;

match the device identifier with an identifier associated with an auxiliary application;

activate the auxiliary application associated with the identifier that interacts with one or more device applications; and

create a data connection between the auxiliary application and the device.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, for causing the processor to deactivate the auxiliary application and terminate the data connection between the auxiliary application and the device when the presence of the device is not detected by the detector.

19. An apparatus, comprising:

an access point associated with a Femto zone;

a detector configured to detect a device associated with a device identifier matching an identifier in the Femto zone;

a processor configured to activate an auxiliary application associated with the identifier that interacts with one or more device applications; and

a processor configured to create a data connection between the auxiliary application and the device.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the processor is further configured to deactivate the auxiliary application and terminate the data connection between the auxiliary application and the device when the presence of the device is not detected.
