Abstract

The disclosed embodiments relate to a system and method for detecting a response of a patient to an external stimulus. An exemplary method comprises the acts of generating at least one time series of at least one physiologic parameter, detecting the external stimulus, detecting at least one response associated with the stimulus, the response comprising at least one of a pattern and a value, and outputting an indication of the response.

25. A method for patient monitoring, comprising:

receiving signals indicative of a physiologic parameter from a sensor;

generating a time series of physiologic data based on the signals;

identifying at least one type of patient stimulus event based on detection of a first pattern in the time series with a processor;

identifying at least one response to the patient stimulus event based on detection of a second pattern in the time series with the processor; and

outputting an indication of the at least one response.

35. A patient monitoring system, comprising:

a monitor configured to receive signals indicative of a physiologic parameter of a patient, the monitor having a processor configured to;

generate a time series of data based on the signals;

analyze the time series to detect a pattern indicative of a patient stimulus event; and

.

record the patient stimulus event in a memory for communication to a user.

36. The patient monitoring system of claim 35, wherein the processor is configured to analyze the time series to detect a pattern indicative of a response to the stimulus event.

37. The patient monitoring system of claim 35, wherein the processor is configured to analyze the time series to detect a pattern indicative of an external stimulus event.

38. The patient monitoring system of claim 35, comprising a sensor that is configured to produce the signals indicative of the physiologic parameter of the patient.

39. The patient monitoring system of claim 35, comprising a stimulation device, wherein the processor is configured to activate the stimulation device to cause the patient stimulus event in response to detection of a designated alarm pattern in the time series.

40. The patient monitoring system of claim 39, wherein the stimulation device comprises an audio headset or a vibration collar.

41. A physiologic data analysis system, comprising:

a processor configured to analyze a time series of data representative of a physiologic parameter of a patient measured over time to detect data corresponding to a stimulus of the patient, detect a response associated with the stimulus, and to output a indication of the response associated with the stimulus as a video or audio indicator via a display or speaker.

42. The system of claim 41, wherein the processor is configured to output the indication within about 2-15 seconds after the stimulus of the patient.

43. The system of claim 41, comprising a memory storing the time series of data.

44. The system of claim 41, comprising a sensor configured to provide the processor with the time series of data.
