Abstract

A method is disclosed comprising selecting an action tool from a set of action tools on a screen display of a computer, the action tool being associated with a set of actions including at least two of the following: (1) a printing action, (2) an e-mailing action, and (3) an archiving action, and applying the action tool to an object with a single user command using the computer, the action tool processing the object in accordance with the associated set of actions. A corresponding document output management system also is disclosed.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

selecting an action tool from a set of action tools on a screen display of a computer, the action tool being associated with a set of actions including at least two of the following;

(1) a printing action, (2) an e-mailing action, and (3) an archiving action, and

applying the action tool to an object with a single user command using the computer, the action tool processing the object in accordance with the associated set of actions.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the action tool is associated with a printing action and an e-mailing action.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the action tool is associated with a printing action and an archiving action.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the action tool is associated with an e-mailing action and an archiving action.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the action tool is associated with a printing action, an e-mailing action and an archiving action.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the object is a document.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the printing action comprises an action for generating a hardcopy of the object.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the action tool is customized and saved by the user.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the action tool is re-customized and resaved by the user.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the action tool is applied to a plurality of objects using a single user command.

11. A document output management system on a computer, the system being employed in executing the method of claim 1.

12. A document output management system, comprising:

a plurality of (1) printing actions, (2) e-mailing actions and (3) archiving actions stored in a memory of a first computer, and

an action tool which can be customized and saved by a user and is accessible through an action tool user interface on the first computer or a second computer, the action tool linking a particular subset of (1), (2) and (3), the subset including actions from at least two of (1), (2) and (3), and, when applied with a single user command, executing the subset of actions on at least one computerized object.

13. The document output management system of claim 12, wherein the subset includes a printing action and an e-mailing action.

14. The document output management system of claim 12, wherein the subset includes a printing action and an archiving action.

15. The document output management system of claim 12, wherein the subset includes an e-mailing action and an archiving action.

16. The document output management system of claim 12, wherein the subset includes a printing action, an e-mailing action and an archiving action.

17. The document output management system of claim 12, wherein the computerized object is a document.

18. The document output management system of claim 13, wherein the printing action comprises an action for generating a hardcopy of the object.

19. The document output management system of claim 14, wherein the printing action comprises an action for generating a hardcopy of the object.

20. The document output management system of claim 12, wherein the action tool is applied with a single user command to execute the subset of actions on a plurality of objects.
