Abstract

A downlink subframe on a single downlink carrier supports physical layer acknowledgment signaling for multiple physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmissions. The physical layer acknowledgement signaling may take the form of physical hybrid ARQ indicator channel (PHICH) signaling. A base unit reserves resource elements groups (REGs) for default PHICH signaling of default PUSCH transmissions. The base unit reserves control channel elements (CCEs) for physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) signaling. A CCE contains multiple interleaved REGs. The base unit takes any unreserved CCEs and maps those CCEs for physical layer acknowledgement signaling of additional PUSCH transmissions.

Claims

1. A method in a wireless communication network infrastructure entity comprising:

reserving at least one resource element group, which contains multiple resource elements, for physical layer acknowledgement signaling of a first physical uplink shared channel;

reserving at least one control channel element, which contains multiple resource element groups, for physical downlink control channel signaling; and

mapping at least one control channel element for physical layer acknowledgement signaling of a second physical uplink shared channel.

2. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:

interleaving remaining resource element groups, after reserving at least one resource element group.

3. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:

receiving transmissions on the first physical uplink shared channel; and

receiving transmissions on the second physical uplink shared channel.

4. A method according to claim 3 wherein the receiving transmissions on the first physical uplink shared channel comprises receiving transmissions from a first component carrier, and wherein the receiving transmissions on the second physical uplink shared channel comprises receiving transmissions from a second component carrier.

5. A method according to claim 3 wherein the receiving transmissions on the first physical uplink shared channel comprises receiving transmissions from a first spatial channel;

and wherein the receiving transmissions on the second physical uplink shared channel comprises receiving transmissions from a second spatial channel.

6. A method according to claim 3 wherein the receiving transmissions on the first physical uplink shared channel comprises receiving transmissions from a first subframe;

and wherein the receiving transmissions on the first physical uplink shared channel comprises receiving transmissions from a second subframe.

7. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:

reserving resource elements for reference signaling.

8. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:

reverting the mapped at least one control channel element to physical downlink control channel signaling.

9. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:

indicating the mapped at least one control channel element.

10. A method according to claim 9 further wherein indicating comprises:

transmitting a quantity of the mapped at least one control channel element on a radio resource control signal.

11. A method according to claim 9 further wherein indicating comprises:

transmitting an index of the mapped at least one control channel element on a radio resource control signal.

12. A method according to claim 1, wherein the mapped at least one control channel element contains nine resource element groups and wherein the at least one resource element group contains at least four resource elements.

13. A method according to claim 1 further comprising:

transmitting a downlink subframe with the mapped at least one control channel element.

14. A method in a wireless communication device comprising:

transmitting on a first physical uplink shared channel;

receiving a downlink subframe with a resource element group for physical layer acknowledgement signaling and with a control channel element mapped for physical layer acknowledgement signaling;

determining physical layer acknowledgement signaling for the first physical uplink shared channel in the control channel element;

wherein the control channel element includes nine interleaved resource element groups.

15. A method according to claim 14 further comprising:

transmitting on a second physical uplink shared channel; and

determining physical layer acknowledgement signaling for the second physical uplink shared channel in the resource element group.

16. A method according to claim 14 comprising:

receiving an indication of the control channel element.

17. A method according to claim 16 wherein the receiving an indication comprises:

receiving control channel signaling for more than one physical uplink shared channel.

18. A method according to claim 16 wherein the receiving an indication comprises:

determining a quantity of physical uplink shared channels from control channel signaling; and

deriving an index of the control channel element from the quantity of physical uplink shared channels.

19. A method according to claim 16 wherein the receiving an indication comprises:

receiving a quantity of control channel elements mapped for physical layer acknowledgement signaling on a radio resource control signal.

20. A method according to claim 16 wherein the receiving an indication comprises:

receiving an index of the control channel element on a radio resource control signal.
