Abstract

According to the method of stripping a portion of a wire of the invention, the insulated wire including the wire core are first flattened before the insulation is stripped away. The flattening eases the stripping as the insulation is partially cracked and dissociated of the wire core, and the stripping is more efficiently applied on a flat surface. A wire stripping machine and a transponder antenna with stripped portions are also claim as being part of the invention.

Claims

1. A method to strip bare a portion of an insulated wire comprising at least a wire core surrounded by an insulation, wherein before stripping away the insulation, said portion of the insulation and of the wire core is first flattened.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the width of the core of said portion of the wire is increased at least by 20% by the flattening operation.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the wire has a diameter of less than 250 micrometers, and preferably of 100 micrometer or less.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein said portion of the wire is flattened by means of a pair of rotating barrels.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein said portion of the wire is flattened by means of at least a press or a hammer means.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the means to flatten said portion of the wire comprise means to cracks the insulation, preferably by imprinting a profile in the insulation.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the insulation is stripped by mechanical means, in particular through at least a scraping edge applicable on a flattened surface of the portion of the wire.

8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the insulation is stripped away by laser radiation, preferably with a direction of radiation approximately perpendicular to one of the flattened surface of the portion of the wire.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein only one partial surface of the flattened portion is stripped of its insulation during the stripping step.

Wire stripping machine to strip a portion of a continuous insulated wire with an insulation and a wire core according to the method of claim 1, wherein the machine comprises at least wire flattening means for flattening a portion of the insulation and the core and wire stripping means to remove the insulation of said flattened portion.

11. An antenna for a transponder made at least partially of an insulated wire with an insulation and a wire core, wherein at least one portion of said wire core has been flattened and stripped according the method of claim 1.

12. An antenna according to claim 11, wherein a stripped portion of the wire forms a contact surface to connect an electronic element like a chip, a module, a switch or similar.

13. An antenna according to claim 11, wherein a stripped portion of the wire is part of a wire crossing.

14. An antenna according to claim 11, wherein the antenna is formed by at least two different wires which are connected each together by said stripped portions.

15. An antenna according to claim 11, wherein one or a plurality of the said stripped portions form a watermark to increase the security of the transponder.
