Abstract

A digital broadcast transmitting/receiving system and a method for processing data are disclosed. The method for processing data may enhance the receiving performance of the receiving system by performing additional coding and multiplexing processes on the traffic information data and transmitting the processed data. Thus, robustness is provided to the traffic information data, thereby enabling the data to respond strongly against the channel environment which is always under constant and vast change.

39. A digital broadcast transmitter, the digital broadcast transmitter comprising:

a pre-processor configured to pre-process enhanced data, wherein the enhanced data is included in a first data group, the first data group is before a data interleaving process, the first data group has at least one segment, a starting position of respective segment in the first data group corresponds to MPEG header data, the second data group is after the data interleaving process, the second data group includes a plurality of known data sequence, and at least one of regularly spaced known data sequence is inserted into the enhanced data;

a multiplexer configured to firstly multiplex the enhanced data with one or more main audio and video (AV) data;

a trellis encoder configured to have at least one memory and to trellis-encode the multiplexed data, the at least one memory being initialized at a beginning of the known data sequence which is included in the pre-processed enhanced data; and

a data transmission unit configured to secondly multiplex both segment synchronization data and field synchronization data with the trellis-encoded data, to modulate the trellis-encoded data multiplexed with both the segment synchronization data and the field synchronization data, and to transmit the modulated data.

40. The digital broadcast transmitter of claim 39, further comprising:

an encoder configured to add first parity data to the multiplexed data;

a data interleaver configured to interleave the multiplexed data having the parity data; and

a compatible processor configured to calculate second parity data from the interleaved data and the initialization data and replace the first parity data within the interleaved data with the second parity data.

41. The digital broadcast transmitter of claim 39, wherein the pre-processor comprises:

a randomizer configured to randomize the enhanced data;

a first encoder configured to generate data frames including the randomized data and encode each data frame for at least one or error correction and error detection;

a second encoder configured to encode the enhanced data with a coding rate of G/H, wherein G and H are positive integers and G is less than H;

a group formatter configured to insert the enhanced data encoded by the second encoder and the known data into the second data group having a plurality of regions;

a data deinterleaver configured to deinterleave the data included in the second data group; and

a packet formatter configured to add header data to the deinterleaved data to generate data packets.

42. The digital broadcast transmitter of claim 41, wherein the group formatter further inserts header location holders, main AV data holders, and parity data holders into the second data group.

43. The digital broadcast transmitter of claim 41, wherein the group formatter further inserts initialization data location holders into the second data group.

44. A method of transmitting a digital broadcast signal in a digital broadcast transmitter, the method comprising:

pre-processing enhanced data, wherein the enhanced data is included in a first data group, the first data group is before a data interleaving process, the first data group has at least one segment, a starting position of respective segment in the first data group corresponds to MPEG header data, the second data group is after the data interleaving process, the second data group includes a plurality of known data sequence, and at least one of regularly spaced known data sequence is inserted into the enhanced data;

firstly multiplexing the enhanced data with one or more main audio and video (AV) data;

trellis-encoding the multiplexed data, wherein memories for the trellis-encoding process are initialized at a beginning of the known data sequence which is included in the pre-processed enhanced data;

secondly multiplexing both segment synchronization data and field synchronization data with the trellis-encoded data;

modulating the trellis-encoded data multiplexed with both the segment synchronization data and the field synchronization data; and

transmitting the modulated data.

45. The method of claim 44, further comprising:

adding first parity data to the multiplexed data;

interleaving the multiplexed data having the parity data;

calculating second parity data from the interleaved data and the initialization data; and

replacing the first parity data within the interleaved data with the second parity data.

46. The method of claim 44, wherein the step of pre-processing comprises:

randomizing the enhanced data;

generating data frames including the randomized data and encode each data frame for at least one or error correction and error detection;

encoding the enhanced data with a coding rate of G/H, wherein G and H are positive integers and G is less than H;

inserting the enhanced data and the known data into the second data group having a plurality of regions;

deinterleaving the data included in the second data group; and

adding header data to the deinterleaved data to generate data packets.

47. The method of claim 46, wherein the step of inserting further inserts header location holders, main AV data holders, and parity data holders into the second data group.

48. The method of claim 46, wherein the step of inserting further inserts initialization data location holders into the second data group.

49. A method of processing a digital broadcast signal in a digital broadcast receiver, the method comprising:

receiving a digital broadcast signal including main data and enhanced data multiplexed with the main data, wherein the digital broadcast signal results from steps of,

performing pre-processing enhanced data, wherein the enhanced data is included in a first data group, the first data group is before a data interleaving process, the first data group has at least one segment, a starting position of respective segment in the first data group corresponds to MPEG header data, the second data group is after the data interleaving process,

the second data group includes a plurality of known data sequence, at least one of regularly spaced known data sequence is inserted into the enhanced data,

performing firstly multiplexing the enhanced data with the main data,

performing trellis-encoding the multiplexed data, performing initializing trellis encoder memories at a beginning of the known data sequence which is included in the pre-processed enhanced data,

performing secondly multiplexing both segment synchronization data and field synchronization data with the trellis-encoded data,

performing modulating the trellis-encoded data multiplexed with both the segment synchronization data and field synchronization data, and

performing transmitting the modulated data;

demodulating the digital broadcast signal; and

decoding the demodulated digital broadcast signal.

50. A digital broadcast receiver, the digital broadcast receiver comprising:

a tuner configured to receive a digital broadcast signal including main data and enhanced data multiplexed with the main data, wherein the digital broadcast signal results from steps of,

performing pre-processing enhanced data, wherein the enhanced data is included in a first data group, the first data group is before a data interleaving process, the first data group has at least one segment, a starting position of respective segment in the first data group corresponds to MPEG header data, the second data group is after the data interleaving process, the second data group includes a plurality of known data sequence, at least one of regularly spaced known data sequence is inserted into the enhanced data,

performing firstly multiplexing the enhanced data with the main data,

performing trellis-encoding the multiplexed data, performing initializing trellis encoder memories at a beginning of the known data sequence which is included in the pre-processed enhanced data,

performing secondly multiplexing both segment synchronization data and field synchronization data with the trellis-encoded data,

performing modulating the trellis-encoded data multiplexed with both the segment synchronization data and field synchronization data, and

performing transmitting the modulated data;

a demodulator configured to demodulate the digital broadcast signal; and

a decoder configured to decode the demodulated digital broadcast signal.
