Abstract
A digital broadcast transmitting/receiving system and a method for processing data are disclosed. The method for processing data may enhance the receiving performance of the receiving system by performing additional coding and multiplexing processes on the traffic information data and transmitting the processed data. Thus, robustness is provided to the traffic information data, thereby enabling the data to respond strongly against the channel environment which is always under constant and vast change.

39. A digital broadcast transmitter, the digital broadcast transmitter comprising:

a pre-processor configured to pre-process enhanced data, wherein the enhanced data is included in a first data group, the first data group is before a data interleaving process, the first data group has at least one segment, a starting position of respective segment in the first data group corresponds to MPEG header data, the second data group is after the data interleaving process, the second data group includes a plurality of known data sequence, and at least one of regularly spaced known data sequence is inserted into the enhanced data; a multiplexer configured to firstly multiplex the enhanced data with one or more main audio and video (AV) data; a trellis encoder configured to have at least one memory and to trellis-encode the multiplexed data, the at least one memory being initialized at a beginning of the known data sequence which is included in the pre-processed enhanced data; and a data transmission unit configured to secondly multiplex both segment synchronization data and field synchronization data with the trellis-encoded data, to modulate the trellis-encoded data multiplexed with both the segment synchronization data and the field synchronization data, and to transmit the modulated data. - View Dependent Claims (40, 41, 42, 43)

44. A method of transmitting a digital broadcast signal in a digital broadcast transmitter, the method comprising:
