Abstract

An embodiment is a technique to perform queue management. A packet is received from an upper layer or a classifier in a multi-hop mesh network. The packet has a packet type classified by the classifier. The received packet is enqueued into one of a plurality of buffers organized according to the packet type.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving a packet from an upper layer or a classifier in a multi-hop mesh network, the packet having a packet type classified by the classifier; and

enqueuing the received packet into one of a plurality of buffers organized according to the packet type.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving the packet comprises:

receiving the packet from a local node from the upper layer or from a remote node in the multi-hop mesh network from the lower layer.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the packet type is a local type for local traffic within the local node or a forwarding type for forwarding traffic to the remote node.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the packet type is further one of a control type, a voice/audio type, a high-quality video type, a low-quality video type, and a background type.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein enqueuing the packet comprises:

depositing the packet into the plurality of buffers based on the packet type, the plurality of buffers including a local buffer and a forwarding buffer corresponding to the local type and the forwarding type, respectively.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein enqueuing the packet further comprises:

depositing the packet into the plurality of buffers based on the packet type, the plurality of buffers further including a control buffer, a voice/audio buffer, a high-quality video buffer, a low-quality video buffer, and a background buffer corresponding to the control type, the voice/audio type, the high-quality video type, the low-quality video type, and the background type, respectively.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the forwarding type have the priority level higher than the local type.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the priority level decreases in order from the control type to the voice/audio type, the high-quality video type, the low-quality video type, and the background type.

9. An article of manufacture comprising:

a machine-accessible storage medium including data that, when accessed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising;

receiving a packet from an upper layer or a classifier in a multi-hop mesh network, the packet having a packet type classified by the classifier; and

enqueuing the received packet into one of a plurality of buffers organized according to the packet type.

10. The article of manufacture of claim 9 wherein the data causing the machine to perform receiving the packet comprise data that, when accessed by the machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

receiving the packet from a local node from the upper layer or from a remote node in the multi-hop mesh network from the lower layer.

11. The article of manufacture of claim 10 wherein the packet type is a local type for local traffic within the local node or a forwarding type for forwarding traffic to the remote node.

12. The article of manufacture of claim 11 wherein the packet type is further one of a control type, a voice/audio type, a high-quality video type, a low-quality video type, and a background type.

13. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein the data causing the machine to perform enqueuing the packet comprise data that, when accessed by the machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

depositing the packet into the plurality of buffers based on the packet type, the plurality of buffers including a local buffer and a forwarding buffer corresponding to the local type and the forwarding type, respectively.

14. The article of manufacture of claim 13 wherein the data causing the machine to perform enqueuing further comprise data that, when accessed by the machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

depositing the packet into the plurality of buffers based on the packet type, the plurality of buffers including a control buffer, a voice/audio buffer, a high-quality video buffer, a low-quality video buffer, and a background buffer corresponding to the control type, the voice/audio type, the high-quality video type, the low-quality video type, and the background type, respectively.

15. The article of manufacture of claim 14 wherein the forwarding type have the priority level higher than the local type.

16. The article of manufacture of claim 15 wherein the priority level decreases in order from the control type to the voice/audio type, the high-quality video type, the low-quality video type, and the background type.

17. An apparatus comprising:

a receiver to receive a packet from an upper layer or a lower layer in a multi-hop mesh network, the packet having a packet type classified by a classifier; and

an enqueuer coupled to the receiver to enqueue the received packet into one of a plurality of buffers organized according to the packet type.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the receiver receives the packet from a local node from the upper layer or from a remote node in the multi-hop mesh network from the lower layer.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the packet type is a local type for local traffic within the local node or a forwarding type for forwarding traffic to the remote node.

20. The apparatus of claim 19 wherein the packet type is further one of a control type, a voice/audio type, a high-quality video type, a low-quality video type, and a background type.

21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the plurality of buffers comprises a local buffer and a forwarding buffer corresponding to the local type and the forwarding type, respectively.

22. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein the plurality of buffers further comprises a control buffer, a voice/audio buffer, a high-quality video buffer, a low-quality video buffer, and a background buffer corresponding to the control type, the voice/audio type, the high-quality video type, the low-quality video type, and the background type, respectively.

23. The apparatus of claim 22 wherein the forwarding type have the priority level higher than the local type.

24. The apparatus of claim 23 wherein the priority level decreases in order from the control type to the voice/audio type, the high-quality video type, the low-quality video type, and the background type.
