Abstract

A method for identifying a result responsive to a current location of a client device includes receiving, form a client device and at a host, a search query that includes a point of interest and a current location of the client device. The method also includes automatically updating the search query as the current location of the client device changes and instructing the host to identify a potential location associated with the point of interest and located within a user-defined proximity from the current location of the client device.

Claims

1. A method for identifying a result responsive to a current location of a client device, the method comprising:

establishing a connection between a host and a mobile device across a wireless network;

exchanging, across the connection between the host and the mobile device, a travel route for the mobile device with a path between an originating point and a destination;

exchanging, across the connection between the host and the mobile device, a search query that includes a point of interest and a location corresponding to a current location of the mobile device;

relating the search query to the travel route using the current location;

exchanging, at a first instant, a first search result that reflects a first entry and a second entry;

exchanging, at a second instant, an update indicating that the mobile device is at a second location that is different than the first location;

relating the search query to the travel route using the second location;

exchanging, at the second instant, a second search result that reflects the first entry that remains persistent from the first search result and a third entry that is responsive to the second location; and

enabling the second search result to be displayed.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes a user selection for a category of service.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the first search result includes a category that a user may select to retrieve additional results.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes a cost threshold that is used to identify the first search result.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes a travel proximity that specifies a distance from the travel route that a user is willing to travel in order to visit a first entry location.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein exchanging, at the second instant, the update includes exchanging the update in response to determining that a threshold period of time has elapsed.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein exchanging, at the second instant, the update includes exchanging the update in response to determining that a threshold distance has been traveled.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein relating the search query to the travel route using the current location includes relating the search query using a speed and direction of the mobile device.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein exchanging the second search result that reflects the first entry that remains persistent from the first search result includes identifying that the first entry remains a prioritized search result that should appear even though a first location for the first entry is no longer located within a threshold degree of proximity to the second location.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes a user entered keyword and detected location corresponding to the current location of the mobile device.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes a user entered keyword and a user entered location corresponding to the current location of the mobile device.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes an establishment associated with one or more locations.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes a facility name.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein the search query includes an object in which a user of the mobile device is interested.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the object is associated with a particular activity.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein exchanging the second search result includes deleting the second entry that falls outside the determined travel distance or travel time from the new location of the mobile device.
