Abstract

A method for customizing a user communication experience is provided. The method includes the steps of receiving a user communication input and determining one or more communication input characteristics. Thereafter, one or more advertisements are provided to the user in accordance with the user communication input and the one or more determined communication characteristics.

Claims

1. A method for customizing a user communication experience, comprising the steps of:

receiving a user communication input;

determining one or more communication input characteristics;

providing one or more advertisements to the user in accordance with the user communication input and the one or more determined communication characteristics.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the user communication input comprises a chat.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user communication input comprises an email.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the user communication input comprises an instant message.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more communication input characteristics comprises the identity of a receiving party.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more communication input characteristics comprises the geographical location of the user.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein an additional input characteristic comprises the geographical locating of a receiving party.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication input is provided to a mobile communication device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication input is provided to a television set top box.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein a receiving party is the recipient of the user communication input, and the user and receiving part receive similar advertising.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the one or more communication input characteristics comprises the identity of the user and the receiving party, and a defined relationship therebetween.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein a receiving party is the recipient of the user communication input, and the user and the receiving party receive different advertising.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the one or more communication input characteristics comprise the geographical location of the user and the geographical location of the receiving party.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more communication input characteristics comprises a determined formality of the user communication input.

15. A method for customizing a user communication experience, comprising the steps of:

receiving a user communication input at a mobile communication device;

determining one or more communication input characteristics;

providing one or more advertisements to the user and a receiving party in accordance with the user communication input and the one or more determined communication characteristics.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the user communication input is provided in accordance with a virtual keyboard.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein the one or more determined communication characteristics comprise one or more from the group of a determined formality of the user communication input, a predefined relationship between the user and the receiving party, a geographic location of the user and a geographic location of the receiving party.

18. A method for customizing a user communication experience, comprising the steps of:

receiving a user communication input at a television set top box via a virtual keyboard;

determining one or more communication input characteristics;

providing one or more advertisements to the user and a receiving party in accordance with the user communication input and the one or more determined communication characteristics, the advertisements being displayed to the user on a television display associated with the television set top box in the vicinity of the virtual keyboard.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the user communication input is received by the receiving party at a television set top box and the advertisements are displayed to the receiving party on a television display associated with the television set top box.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the user communication input is received by the receiving party at a mobile communication device, and the advertisements are displayed to the receiving party thereon.
