Abstract

Disclosed is a method of producing a cell culture vessel (10) having a carbon nanotube (CNT) layer (14) on its surface. The method comprises the steps of providing a vessel (12) having a predetermined shape; providing a CNT dispersion of a CNT material composed primarily of CNT dispersed in a dispersion medium at a concentration of not more than 50 mg/L; and forming the carbon nanotube layer (14) on the surface of the vessel (12). The formation of the CNT layer (14) is achieved by alternately repeating a supply step of applying the CNT dispersion solution to the vessel (12) and a drying step of drying the applied dispersion solution one or more times.

Claims

1. A method of producing a cell culture vessel having a carbon nanotube layer on a surface thereof, comprising:

providing a vessel having a predetermined shape;

providing a carbon nanotube dispersion of a carbon nanotube material composed primarily of carbon nanotubes dispersed in a dispersion medium at a concentration of not more than 50 mg/L; and

forming a carbon nanotube layer on the surface of the vessel,

wherein the formation of the carbon nanotube layer is carried out by alternately repeating at least ten times a supply step of applying the dispersion to the surface of the vessel and a drying step of drying the applied dispersion and wherein each supply step comprises applying an amount of the carbon nanotube material in the dispersion that is not more than 0.1 μ

g per cm² of the surface area of the surface on which the carbon nanotube layer forms.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein each supply step comprises applying an amount of the carbon nanotube material in the dispersion that is between 0.005 and 0.05 μ

g per cm² of the surface area of the surface on which the carbon nanotube layer forms.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the supply step and the drying step are repeated at least 20 times.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the formation of the carbon nanotube layer is carried out under low-humidity conditions at a relative humidity of not more than 30%.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein, in the supply step, the dispersion is applied to the surface of the vessel in a highly dispersed state such that no agglomerates are visible.

6. The method of any of claim 5, wherein the carbon nanotubes included in the dispersion are primarily monolayer carbon nanotubes.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the supply step and the drying step are repeated at least 20 times.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the formation of the carbon nanotube layer is carried out under low-humidity conditions at a relative humidity of not more than 30%.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein, in the supply step, the dispersion is applied to the surface of the vessel in a highly dispersed state such that no agglomerates are visible.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the carbon nanotubes included in the dispersion are primarily monolayer carbon nanotubes.

15. A cell culture vessel manufactured according to the method of claim 1.

16. A method of culturing cells, comprising:

disposing cells in the cell culture vessel of claim 15 and

subjecting the cell culture vessel to cell culturing conditions.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the cells are stem cells.

18. A method for producing a carbon nanotube layer exhibiting cell growth-promoting activity, comprising:

(a) applying a carbon nanotube dispersion to a defined surface area of a substrate surface, the carbon nanotube dispersion primarily comprising carbon nanotubes dispersed in a medium at a concentration of not more than 50 milligrams per liter, wherein the amount of the carbon nanotubes applied is not more than 0.1 microgram per square centimeter of the defined surface area,

(b) drying the applied dispersion, and

(c) repeating steps (a) and (b) at least ten times.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the amount of the carbon nanotubes applied to the substrate surface is between 0.005 and 0.05 microgram per square centimeter of the defined surface area.

20. A carbon nanotube layer exhibiting cell growth-promoting activity produced by the method of claim 19.

21. A carbon nanotube layer exhibiting cell growth-promoting activity produced by the method of claim 18.
