Abstract

Persistent media playback techniques are described. In an implementation, a media player is served via a network for display by a browser of a device. Web pages are served via the network for display by the browser of the device. Each of the web pages is configured for integration with the media player so that the media player is persistently displayed by the browser during navigation among the web pages. The media player may be configured to play media files providing a variety of different media types. The media player may also provide contextual suggestions of media.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

serving a media player via a network for display by a browser of a device, the media player being configured to play media; and

causing one or more web pages served via the network for display by the browser of the device to be integrated with the media player so that the media player is persistently displayed by the browser during navigation among the web pages.

2. A computer-implemented method as described in claim 1, wherein the media comprises at least two different types of media.

3. A computer-implemented method as described in claim 2, wherein the different types of media comprise audio, video, a game, a podcast, or a software application.

4. A computer-implemented method as described in claim 1, wherein the media player comprises a queue containing selected media to be played by the media player.

5. A computer-implemented method as described in claim 1, further comprising receiving a selection of the media from at least one of the web pages and causing the media to be inserted in the queue.

6. A computer-implemented method as described in claim 1, further comprising providing a context-based suggestion of additional media to be added to the queue.

7. A computer-implemented method as described in claim 1, wherein the media player comprises a task bar integrated with each of the web pages displayed by the browser.

8. One or more computer-readable media comprising instructions that are executable to implement a module that is configured to integrate a media player with a plurality of web pages for display by a browser of a client device, the media player configured for persistent display by the browser to play media during navigation between the plurality of web pages.

9. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 8, wherein the media comprises audio, video, a game, or a software application.

10. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 8, wherein the media player comprises a queue containing the media to be played by the media player.

11. One or more computer-readable described as recited in claim 10, wherein the module is further configured to receive a selection of the media from at least one of the web pages and cause the media to be inserted in the queue.

12. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 8, wherein the media player is configured to provide a context-based suggestion of media files to be added to the queue.

13. One or more computer-readable media as described in claim 8, wherein the media player comprises a task bar.

14. A system comprising a media player module configured to:

serve a media player via a network for display by a browser of a device, the media player being configured to play media;

cause one or more web pages served via the network for display by the browser of the device to be integrated with the media player so that the media player is persistently displayed by the browser during navigation among the web pages; and

provide context based suggestions of additional media to be added to a queue of the media player.

15. A system as described in claim 14, wherein a context-based suggestion is based on media played by the media player.

16. A system as described in claim 14, wherein the additional media comprises at least two different types of media.

17. A system as described in claim 16, wherein the types of media comprise audio, video, a game, or a software application.

18. A system as described in claim 14, wherein the additional media of the context based suggestion is available for selection from the one or more web pages.

19. A system as described in claim 18, wherein the media player module is configured to receive a selection of the additional media from at least one of the web pages and cause the media to be inserted in the queue.

20. A system as described in claim 14, wherein the media player comprises a task bar.
