Abstract

Systems and methods for continuous measurement of an analyte in a host are provided. The system generally includes a continuous analyte sensor configured to continuously measure a concentration of analyte in a host and a sensor electronics module physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor during sensor use, wherein the sensor electronics module is further configured to directly wirelessly communicate displayable sensor information to a plurality of different types of display devices.

Claims

1. A system for continuous measurement of an analyte in a host, the system comprising:

a continuous analyte sensor configured to measure a concentration of an analyte in a host;

a sensor electronics module physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor, wherein the sensor electronics module is configured to process a data stream associated with the analyte concentration measured by the continuous analyte sensor and to generate sensor data based on the data stream, wherein the sensor electronics module comprises a first telemetry module configured to wirelessly transmit sensor data; and

a key fob device comprising a second telemetry module and a user interface, wherein the key fob device is configured to display sensor data on the user interface, and wherein the second telemetry module is configured to wirelessly receive sensor data from the sensor electronics module and to transmit sensor data.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device is sized to fit on a key chain.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device comprises an authentication mechanism.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device further comprises a data storage device configured to store sensor data.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the sensor electronics module is configured to process the data stream to provide displayable sensor information, wherein sensor data transmitted by the sensor electronics module comprises the displayable sensor information.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device is configured to receive user input.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the user interface of the key fob device comprises one or more buttons configured to accept the user input.

8. The system of claim 6, wherein the user input comprises calibration information.

9. The system of claim 6, wherein the telemetry module of the key fob device is configured to wirelessly transmit the user input to the sensor electronics module.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the telemetry module of the sensor electronics module is configured to receive the user input, and wherein the sensor electronics module is configured to process the user input to provide sensor data comprising displayable sensor information.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device is configured to display, on the user interface, a number representative of the analyte concentration based on the sensor data.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the key fob device is further configured to display, on the user interface, an arrow representative of a rate of change of the analyte concentration based on the sensor data.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device comprises a USB connector and a telemetry adapter configured to enable direct wireless access between the sensor electronics module and a personal computer.

14. The system of claim 1, wherein the telemetry module of the key fob device is configured to transmit sensor data wirelessly.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the telemetry module of the key fob device is configured to wirelessly transmit sensor data using a standardized wireless protocol.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the standardized wireless protocol is a Bluetooth protocol.

17. The system of claim 1, further comprising a secondary display device comprising a telemetry module and a user interface, wherein the telemetry module of the secondary device is configured to wirelessly receive sensor data, wherein the secondary display device is configured to display sensor data on the user interface, and wherein the user interface of the secondary display device is configured to display more sensor data than the user interface of the key fob device.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the telemetry module of the secondary display device is configured to wirelessly receive sensor data using a standardized wireless protocol.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the standardized wireless protocol is a Bluetooth protocol.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein the secondary display device comprises a phone.

21. The system of claim 1, wherein the continuous analyte sensor is a continuous glucose sensor.

22. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device is configured to process sensor data to provide displayable sensor information.

23. The system of claim 1, wherein the key fob device is configured to audibly, visibly or tactilely alert a user in response to one or more alert conditions being satisfied by sensor data.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the one or more alert conditions are user settable.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the one or more alert conditions are user settable by a user into the user interface of the key fob device.
