Abstract

Disclosed herein is a system and method relating to a listing service'"'"'s listings, such as job listings of a recruitment service, targeted for a user using targeting information collected external to the listing service. A number of listings are identified for the user using the externally-collected targeting information and information obtained from the listing service including information about listings of the listing service. The user-targeted listing service listings are provided to the user outside the listing service'"'"'s notifications, such as in a web page provided by a service other than the listing service.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

collecting targeting information for a user, the targeting information being information other than listing service information and comprising intent information identified using user input collected from a web page of a service other than the listing service;

identifying at least one listing from a plurality of listings maintained by the listing service, each listing being identified using the targeting information and information obtained from the listing service including information about the listing;

providing the at least one listing service listing to the user.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the information obtained from the listing service comprises information about the user collected by the listing service.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the targeting information further comprises location targeting information for the user.

4. The method of claim 1, identifying the at least one listing further comprising:

selecting the at least one listing based on relevance, availability and user engagement determinations for the at least one listing.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

determining a level of relevance of a listing to the user using the targeting information collected for the user and the information maintained for the listing by the listing service.

6. The method of claim 5, determining the level of relevance further comprising:

determining the level of relevance using listing service information identifying a location for the listing and a location for the user identified using the targeting information.

7. The method of claim 5, determining the level of relevance further comprising:

determining a degree to which listing service information identifying prerequisites of the listing match user prerequisites identified using the targeting information.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the listing service is a recruitment listing service, and the prerequisites of the listing service and the user'"'"'s prerequisites are job prerequisites.

9. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

determining a level of user engagement based on user behavior relative to the listing.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the level of user engagement is determined based on a ratio of the number of users that had an interest in the listing and the number of users that were provided with the listing.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is based on the behavior of the listing service users.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is further based on the behavior of users beyond the listing service.

13. The method of claim 10, the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is based on the behavior of users exclusive of the listing service.

14. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

determining a level of availability for the listing based on an age of the listing.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein determining a level of availability for the listing is further based on a level of user pursuit of the listing.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the listing is a job listing, and the level of user pursuit comprises a number of users that have applied for the job.

17. The method of claim 1, providing the at least one listing service listing to the user beyond the listing service further comprising:

displaying the at least one listing service listing in a web page other than a listing service web page.

18. The method of claim 1, providing the at least one listing service listing to the user beyond the listing service further comprising:

providing the at least one listing service listing via a messaging system.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein the messaging system is an electronic mail messaging system.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the messaging system is an instant messaging system.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein the messaging system is a voice messaging system.

22. A computer-readable medium tangibly storing thereon computer-executable process steps, the process steps comprising:

collecting targeting information for a user, the targeting information being information other than listing service information and comprising intent information identified using user input collected from a web page of a service other than the listing service;

identifying at least one listing from a plurality of listings maintained by the listing service, each listing being identified using the targeting information and information obtained from the listing service including information about the listing;

providing the at least one listing service listing to the user.

23. The medium of claim 22, wherein the information obtained from the listing service comprises information about the user collected by the listing service.

24. The medium of claim 22, wherein the targeting information further comprises location targeting information for the user.

25. The medium of claim 22, identifying the at least one listing further comprising:

selecting the at least one listing based on relevance, availability and user engagement determinations for the at least one listing.

26. The medium of claim 25, the process steps further comprising:

determining a level of relevance of a listing to the user using the targeting information collected for the user and the information maintained for the listing by the listing service.

27. The medium of claim 26, determining the level of relevance further comprising:

determining the level of relevance using listing service information identifying a location for the listing and a location for the user identified using the targeting information.

28. The medium of claim 26, determining the level of relevance further comprising:

determining a degree to which listing service information identifying prerequisites of the listing match user prerequisites identified using the targeting information.

29. The medium of claim 28, wherein the listing service is a recruitment listing service, and the prerequisites of the listing service and the user'"'"'s prerequisites are job prerequisites.

30. The medium of claim 25, the process steps further comprising:

determining a level of user engagement based on user behavior relative to the listing.

31. The medium of claim 30, wherein the level of user engagement is determined based on a ratio of the number of users that had an interest in the listing and the number of users that were provided with the listing.

32. The medium of claim 31, wherein the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is based on the behavior of the listing service users.

33. The medium of claim 32, wherein the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is further based on the behavior of users beyond the listing service.

34. The medium of claim 31, the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is based on the behavior of users exclusive of the listing service.

35. The medium of claim 25, the process steps further comprising:

determining a level of availability for the listing based on an age of the listing.

36. The medium of claim 35, wherein determining a level of availability for the listing is further based on a level of user pursuit of the listing.

37. The medium of claim 36, wherein the listing is a job listing, and the level of user pursuit comprises a number of users that have applied for the job.

38. The medium of claim 22, providing the at least one listing service listing to the user beyond the listing service further comprising:

displaying the at least one listing service listing in a web page other than a listing service web page.

39. The medium of claim 22, providing the at least one listing service listing to the user beyond the listing service further comprising:

providing the at least one listing service listing via a messaging system.

40. The medium of claim 22, wherein the messaging system is an electronic mail messaging system.

41. The medium of claim 22, wherein the messaging system is an instant messaging system.

42. The medium of claim 22, wherein the messaging system is a voice messaging system.

43. A system comprising:

at least one computing device having a processing unit configured to provide;

a targeting information collector collecting targeting information for a user, the targeting information being information other than listing service information and comprising intent information identified using user input collected from a web page of a service other than the listing service;

a listing selector identifying at least one listing from a plurality of listings maintained by the listing service, each listing being identified using the targeting information and information obtained from the listing service including information about the listing;

a listing notifier providing the at least one listing service listing to the user.

44. The system of claim 43, wherein the information obtained from the listing service comprises information about the user collected by the listing service.

45. The system of claim 43, wherein the targeting information further comprises location targeting information.

46. The system of claim 43, the listing selector further comprising:

a listing selector selecting the at least one listing based relevance, availability and user engagement determinations for the at least one listing.

47. The system of claim 46, the listing selector further comprising:

a relevance determiner determining a level of relevance of a listing to the user using the targeting information collected for the user and the information maintained for the listing by the listing service.

48. The system of claim 47, the relevance determiner further comprising:

a relevance determiner determining the level of relevance using listing service information identifying a location for the listing and a location for the user identified using the targeting information.

49. The system of claim 47, the relevance determiner further comprising:

a relevance determiner determining a degree to which listing service information identifying prerequisites of the listing match user prerequisites identified using the targeting information.

50. The system of claim 49, wherein the listing service is a recruitment listing service, and the prerequisites of the listing service and the user'"'"'s prerequisites are job prerequisites.

51. The system of claim 46, further comprising:

a user engagement determiner determining a level of user engagement based on user behavior relative to the listing.

52. The system of claim 51, wherein the level of user engagement is determined based on a ratio of the number of users that had an interest in the listing and the number of users that were provided with the listing.

53. The system of claim 52, wherein the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is based on the behavior of the listing service users.

54. The system of claim 53, wherein the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is further based on the behavior of users beyond the listing service.

55. The system of claim 52, the ratio used to determine the level of user engagement is based on the behavior of users exclusive of the listing service.

56. The system of claim 46, further comprising:

an availability determiner determining a level of availability for the listing based on an age of the listing.

57. The system of claim 56, wherein determining a level of availability for the listing is further based on a level of user pursuit of the listing.

58. The system of claim 57, wherein the listing is a job listing, and the level of user pursuit comprises a number of users that have applied for the job.

59. The system of claim 43, providing the at least one listing service listing to the user beyond the listing service further comprising:

displaying the at least one listing service listing in a web page other than a listing service web page.

60. The system of claim 43, providing the at least one listing service listing to the user beyond the listing service further comprising:

providing the at least one listing service listing via a messaging system.

61. The system of claim 43, wherein the messaging system is an electronic mail messaging system.

62. The system of claim 43, wherein the messaging system is an instant messaging system.

63. The system of claim 43, wherein the messaging system is a voice messaging system.
