Abstract

An example exercise system includes an exercise apparatus having a processor and a movable element and a device coupled to the exercise apparatus and to a communication network. The device is configured to receive an exercise program and to output the exercise program to the exercise apparatus.

Claims

1. :

An exercise system comprising;

an exercise apparatus including a movable element, memory storing an exercise program, an interface, and a processor; and

a device including a processor and coupled to the exercise apparatus and to a communication network, the device configured to receive an additional exercise program communicated over the communication network,

wherein the interface is configured to permit selection of an exercise program from between the exercise program stored in the memory and the additional exercise program received by the device and the processor of the exercise apparatus is configured to control a characteristic of the movable element in accordance with a selected program.

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the interface comprises one or more interface elements arranged on a panel of the exercise apparatus.

The exercise system according to claim 2, wherein the interface elements comprise a display.

The exercise system according to claim 2, wherein the interface elements comprise a speaker.

The exercise system according to claim 2, wherein the interface elements comprises one or more keys.

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the device is further configured to receive mental activity data transmitted over the communication network and the interface is configured to output the mental activity data.

The exercise system according to claim 6, wherein the interface comprises a display configured to display the mental activity data.

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the exercise apparatus is configured to communicate data to a remote computer.

The exercise system according to claim 8, wherein the data communicated to the remote computer comprises data relating to use of the exercise apparatus.

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the exercise apparatus further comprises a port configured for connection to an output device.

The exercise system according to claim 10, wherein the port is configured for connection to an external display device.

12. :

The exercise system according to claim 11, wherein the selected exercise program generates displays for display on an external display device connected to the port.

The exercise system according to claim 12, wherein the generated displays showing a simulated competition.

The exercise system according to claim 13, wherein the simulated competition is a race.

15. :

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the exercise apparatus comprises a stationary bicycle.

16. :

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the exercise apparatus comprises a treadmill.

17. :

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the exercise apparatus comprises a weight machine.

18. :

The exercise system according to claim 1, wherein the exercise apparatus comprises a stepper.
