Abstract

A service sends rich content messages including text and photos between any mobile device and potentially across a heterogeneous network. Furthermore, to enhance the user experience, content can be delivered based on personal preferences and device display capabilities.

9. A messaging system, comprising:

at least one wireless computing device;

at least one load balance server communicating with the wireless computing device;

at least one application server communicating with the load balance server;

at least one Web page, server communicating with the load balance server;

at least one database server communicating with the load balance server, wherein

the application server includes a server application, the server application including a server part, a client runtime part, an administered object part, and an administration part.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the server part includes at least one broker providing delivery services including connections to messaging applications that are executed on the application server, and message routing and delivery.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the message server part maintains physical destinations to which clients send messages, and from which messages are delivered to consuming clients.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the runtime part provides an interface between at least one client and the message server part, and further wherein the runtime part supports all the required operations needed by the client to send and receive messages.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the administered object part encapsulates configuration information that is specific to a particular wireless computing device, whereby a user can use the administration part to create and manage objects.

14. The system of claim 9, wherein the application server acts as a broker

between mobile computing devices and third party vendors to provide to the wireless computing devices information services.

15. A method for providing at least one information service to a wireless computing device, comprising:

receiving, from the mobile device, an initial information request;

using a web service platform on an application server, generating a Simple Object Application Protocol (SOAP) request;

sending the SOAP request to a third party web server;

receiving from the web server a SOAP response containing the requested information; and

providing the information to the wireless computing device.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising decoding the SOAP response, prior to providing the information to the wireless computing device.

17. The method of claim 16, comprising comparing an identification of the wireless computing device to information in a device database to obtain device-specific preferences and/or capabilities.

18. The method of claim 17, comprising formatting information from the web server per the preferences and/or capabilities, prior to providing the information to the wireless computing device.

19. The method of claim 15, comprising providing information to user based on a personal preference filter unique to the user and stored remotely on a server.
