Abstract

A location measurement system comprises: a GPS receiver for attachment to a person and for determining earth location of the person; a display for attachment to the person; memory for storing map data; a processor configured to process earth location and the map data to instruct display the person'"'"'s current location with a map on the display.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a presentation device; and

a processor configured to at least;

detect contact with ground based upon movement over the ground;

determine a first vertical drop based upon the movement over the ground during at least one time interval in which lack of contact with the ground is detected followed by the detection of the contact with the ground;

compare the first vertical drop to a second vertical drop; and

cause the presentation device to present the comparison.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the apparatus is a watch and the presentation device is a display of the watch.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a location determining device configured to determine a current location.

4. The apparatus of claim 3, further comprising a memory storing map data wherein the map data includes topographical information, where in the processor is further configured to process the earth location and the map data and to instruct the presentation device to present the current location within a map.

5. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the location determining device is configured to determine a speed of the apparatus and the processor is configured to instruct the presentation device to present the speed.

6. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the location determining device is configured to determine a distance traveled of the apparatus and the processor is configured to instruct the presentation device to present the distance traveled.

7. The apparatus of claim 3, further comprising a wireless transmitter configured to transmit the current location to a remote site.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an altimeter configured to determine altitude of the apparatus, wherein the processor is configured to instruct the presentation device to present the altitude.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a vibration sensor configured to generate data for determining the contact and the lack of contact with the ground.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the data indicates the lack of contact with the ground based on vibration being reduced during the at least one time interval.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a microphone sensor configured to generate data for determining the contact and the lack of contact with the ground.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the data indicates the lack of contact with the ground based on vibration being reduced during the at least one time interval.

13. A method comprising:

detecting contact with ground based upon movement over the ground;

determining, by a processor, a first vertical drop based upon the movement over the ground during at least one time interval in which lack of contact with the ground is detected followed by the detection of the contact with the ground;

comparing the first vertical drop to a second vertical drop; and

causing the presentation device to present the comparison.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

determining an earth location of the person; and

accessing map data that includes 3-D topographical information.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

processing the earth location and the map data to determine a current location; and

causing presentation device of the current location within a map.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the detecting of the movement comprises sensing data by a vibrational sensor.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the data indicates the lack of contact with the ground based on vibration being reduced during the at least one time interval.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the detecting of the movement comprises sensing data by a microphone.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the data indicates the lack of contact with the ground based on vibration being reduced during the at least one time interval.

20. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

determining a speed of the apparatus; and

causing presentation of the speed.
