Abstract

A data Interface for transferring digital data between a host and a client over a communication path using packet structures linked together to form a communication protocol for communicating a pre-selected set of digital control and presentation data. The signal protocol is used by link controllers configured to generate, transmit, and receive packets forming the communications protocol, and to form digital data into one or more types of data packets, with at least one residing in the host device and being coupled to the client through the communications path. The interface provides a cost-effective, low power, bi-directional, high-speed data transfer mechanism over a short-range “serial” type data link, which lends itself to implementation with miniature connectors and thin flexible cables which are especially useful in connecting display elements such as wearable micro-displays to portable computers and wireless communication devices.

Claims

1. A method for a client to communicate to a host a selection of an invalid sample data rate for a reverse audio data stream in a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) communication system, the method comprising the steps of:

sending a reverse encapsulation packet from the host to the client;

sending an error report packet from the client to the host, the error report packet comprising an indicator that the client does not support the invalid sample data rate;

requesting a client capability packet by the host, comprising a request for audio stream support data; and

sending the client capability packet to the host, the client capability packet comprising the audio stream support data.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the audio stream support data comprises an indicator that the client does not support the reverse audio data stream.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the audio stream support data comprises an indicator that the client supports at least one data rate.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising the step of the host selecting an operating data rate from the at least one data rate.

5. A system for a client to communicate to a host a selection of an invalid sample data rate for a reverse audio data stream in a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) communication system, the system comprising:

a processor;

means for sending a reverse encapsulation packet from the host to the client in the processor;

means for sending an error report packet from the client to the host, the error report packet comprising an indicator that the client does not support the invalid sample data rate in the processor;

means for requesting a client capability packet by the host, comprising a request for audio stream support data in the processor; and

means for sending the client capability packet to the host, the client capability packet comprising the audio stream support data in the processor.

6. The system of claim 5 wherein the audio stream support data comprises an indicator that the client does not support the reverse audio data stream.

7. The system of claim 5 wherein the audio stream support data comprises an indicator that the client supports at least one data rate.

8. The system of claim 7 further comprising a means for selecting an operating data rate from the at least one data rate by the host.

9. A storage media comprising program instructions which are computer-executable to implement a client to communicate to a host a selection of an invalid sample data rate for a reverse audio data stream in a mobile display digital interface (MDDI) communication system, the storage media comprising:

program instructions for causing a reverse encapsulation packet to be sent from the host to the client;

program instructions for causing an error report packet to be sent from the client to the host, the error report packet comprising an indicator that the client does not support the invalid sample data rate;

program instructions for causing a client capability packet be requested by the host, comprising a request for audio stream support data; and

program instructions for causing the client capability packet to be sent to the host, the client capability packet comprising the audio stream support data.

10. The storage media of claim 9 wherein the audio stream support data comprises an indicator that the client does not support the reverse audio data stream.

11. The storage media of claim 9 wherein the audio stream support data comprises an indicator that the client supports at least one data rate.

12. The storage media of claim 11 further comprising program instructions for causing the host to select an operating data rate from the at least one data rate.
