Abstract

A display and methods of driving the display, where the display includes a plurality of pixels, where some colors are present in every pixel, and some colors are only present in less than all of the pixels.

Claims

1. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel, and a yellow sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the yellow sub-pixel.

2. The display device according to claim 1, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel.

3. The display device according to claim 2, wherein the area of the green sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the yellow sub-pixel.

4. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel and a yellow sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel.

5. The display device according to claim 4, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the red sub-pixel.

6. The display device according to claim 5, wherein the area of the green sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the red sub-pixel.

7. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel and a yellow sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the red sub-pixel.

8. The display device according to claim 7, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the yellow sub-pixel.

9. The display device according to claim 8, wherein the area of the yellow sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the red sub-pixel

10. The display device according to claim 8, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel.

11. The display device according to claim 10, wherein the area of the yellow sub-pixel is substantially the same as at least one of the area of the red sub-pixel and the area of the green sub-pixel.

12. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel and a cyan sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel.

13. The display device according to claim 12, wherein an area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the green sub-pixel.

14. The display device according to claim 13, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

15. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel and a cyan sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the red sub-pixel.

16. The display device according to claim 15, wherein an area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the red sub-pixel, and the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

17. The display device according to claim 15, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel, and wherein an area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than at least one of the area of the red sub-pixel and the area of the green sub-pixel.

18. The display device according to claim 17, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel, and wherein the area of the green sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the red sub-pixel.

19. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel, a yellow sub-pixel and a cyan sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the yellow sub-pixel and an area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the yellow sub-pixel.

20. The display device according to claim 19, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

21. The display device according to claim 19, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel and the area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the green sub-pixel.

22. The display device according to claim 21, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

23. The display device according to claim 21, wherein the area of the yellow sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the green sub-pixel.

24. The display device according to claim 23, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

25. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel, a yellow sub-pixel and a cyan sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel and an area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the green sub-pixel.

26. The display device according to claim 25, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

27. The display device according to claim 25, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the red sub-pixel and the area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the red sub-pixel.

28. The display device according to claim 27, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

29. The display device according to claim 27, wherein the area of the red sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the green sub-pixel.

30. The display device according to claim 29, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

31. A display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel, a yellow sub-pixel and a cyan sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the red sub-pixel and an area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the red sub-pixel.

32. The display device according to claim 31, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

33. The display device according to claim 31, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the yellow sub-pixel and the area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the yellow sub-pixel.

34. The display device according to claim 33, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

35. The display device according to claim 33, wherein the area of the yellow sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the red sub-pixel.

36. The display device according to claim 35, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

37. The display device according to claim 33, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel and the area of the cyan sub-pixel is greater than the area of the green sub-pixel.

38. The display device according to claim 37, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

39. The display device according to claim 37, wherein the area of the yellow sub-pixel is substantially the same as at least one of the area of the red sub-pixel and the area of the green sub-pixel.

40. The display device according to claim 39, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the cyan sub-pixel.

41. A liquid crystal display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel, and a yellow sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the yellow sub-pixel.

42. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 41, wherein the area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel.

43. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 42, wherein the area of the green sub-pixel is substantially the same as the area of the yellow sub-pixel.

44. A liquid crystal display device comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein at least some of said pixels comprise a red sub-pixel, a green sub-pixel, a blue sub-pixel and a yellow sub-pixel, wherein an area of the blue sub-pixel is greater than an area of the green sub-pixel.
