Abstract

Embodiments relate to systems and methods for generating generating a rapidly rotatable dimensional view of data objects. A modeling client can host modeling logic and an application programming interface (API) to create, access, manipulate, and import/export modeling objects used in modeling applications, such as engineering, medical, financial, and other modeling platforms. The source data accepted into the modeling client can include consumer or business-level applications, whose spreadsheet, database or other content can be extracted and encapsulated in object-oriented format, such as extensible markup language (XML) format. A set of dimensions of each model object can be associated via a set of linkages. A rotator widget or other interface object can be presented to allow a user to traverse the linkages and rapidly rotate through dimensions in a view, without having to manually switch or configure planes or other database dimensions, enhancing viewing efficiency of large layers.

Claims

1. A method of generating a selectively rotatable view of data, comprising:

accessing at least one model object,

generating a first dimensional view of the model object via a user interface;

presenting a user-activatable interface resource to generate at least one altered dimensional view of the at least one model object linked via a set of dimension linkages to the first view; and

initiating a view transition to the at least one altered dimensional view.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one model object comprises an object-based database, and the first dimensional view and the at least one altered dimensional view each comprise a view of at least a set of rows and a set of columns in the object-based database.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the set of rows and set of columns for the at least one altered dimensional view comprises a view of the object-based database pivoted on at least one selected row or at least one selected column.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the set of rows and set of columns for the at least one altered dimensional view comprises a view of the object-based database in which at least one dimension in the set of rows or set of columns is removed.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the user-activatable interface resource comprises a view transition icon, and activation of the view transition icon initiates a view transition to the at least one altered dimensional view.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the view transition icon is controllable via a cursor on the user interface.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the at least one additional view comprises a plurality of additional views, and repeated activation of the view transition icon generates a return to the first dimensional view after display of a last dimensional view in the plurality of additional views.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the user-activatable interface resource is embeddable in the source data.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing the at least one altered dimensional view of the at least one model object separately from the original model object.

14. The system of claim 1, wherein the user-activatable interface resource comprises a view transition icon, and activation of the view transition icon initiates a view transition to the at least one altered dimensional view.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the view transition icon is controllable via a cursor on the user interface.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the at least one additional view comprises a plurality of additional views, and repeated activation of the view transition icon generates a return to the first dimensional view after display of a last dimensional view in the plurality of additional views.

10. A client system, comprising:

an interface to at least one model object; and

a processor, communicating with the at least one model object via the interface, the processor being configured to—

access the at least one model object,

generate a first dimensional view of the model object via a user interface,

present a user-activatable interface resource to generate at least one altered dimensional view of the at least one model object linked via a set of dimension linkages to the first view, and

initiate a view transition to the at least one altered dimensional view.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one model object comprises an object-based database, and the first dimensional view and the at least one altered dimensional view each comprise a view of at least a set of rows and a set of columns in the object-based database.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the set of rows and set of columns for the at least one altered dimensional view comprises a view of the object-based database pivoted on at least one selected row or at least one selected column.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the set of rows and set of columns for the at least one altered dimensional view comprises a view of the object-based database in which at least one dimension in the set of rows or set of columns is removed.

17. The system of claim 10, wherein the user-activatable interface resource is embeddable in the source data.

18. The system of claim 10, wherein the processor is further configured to store the at least one altered dimensional view of the at least one model object separately from the original model object.

19. A computer readable storage medium, the computer readable storage medium storing a set of computer readable instructions to execute a method of generating a selectively rotatable view of data, the method comprising:

accessing at least one model object;

generating a first dimensional view of the model object via a user interface;

presenting a user-activatable interface resource to generate at least one altered dimensional view of the at least one model object linked via a set of dimension linkages to the first view; and

initiating a view transition to the at least one altered dimensional view.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the at least one model object comprises an object-based database, and the first dimensional view and the at least one altered dimensional view each comprise a view of at least a set of rows and a set of columns in the object-based database.
