Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for asynchronous multimedia content retrieval, which can be applied to TV-Anytime standard or MPEG standard. In summary, an asynchronous multimedia retrieval method is provided as including: a client establishing the first session as requesting to the server; transmitting to the server the retrieval inquiry message for contents that the server needs; terminating the first session after the retrieval inquiry; establishing the second session and requesting to the server the result for the retrieval inquiry at a certain point in time that the previously set time has passed; and receiving the retrieval result from the server and terminating the second session.

Claims

1. A method performed by a client in order for asynchronous multimedia contents retrieval in client-server computing model, comprising:

establishing the first session with the server;

transmitting a retrieval inquiry message to the server, when the first session has been established;

closing the first session after transmitting the retrieval inquiry;

establishing the second session with the server;

transmitting the result request message requesting the server to return the result of the retrieval inquiry, at a certain point in time that the previously set time has passed; and

receiving retrieval result from the server and terminating the second session.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the retrieval inquiry message includes retrieval beginning time and retrieval duration information.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the previously set time is that retrieval time has passed from the retrieval beginning time.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmitting retrieval inquiry massage includes generating a retrieval identifier and inserting the retrieval identifier in the retrieval inquiry message, and

wherein the requesting to the server includes inserting the retrieval identifier which is the same identifier in the retrieval inquiry message, in the result request message.

5. A method performed by a server in order for asynchronous multimedia contents retrieval in client-server computing model, comprising:

establishing the first session with the client;

receiving a retrieval inquiry message from the client;

receiving session disconnect request from the client and closing the first session;

performing retrieval according to the retrieval inquiry message;

storing the retrieval result;

establishing the second session according to the request from the client and receiving the result request message;

transmitting the retrieval result as responding the request; and

closing the second session.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the retrieval inquiry message includes retrieval beginning time and retrieval duration, and wherein performing retrieval starts from the retrieval beginning time and continues during the retrieval duration.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the retrieval inquiry message includes a retrieval identifier and the retrieval result is stored with the retrieval identifier.

The method of claim 7, wherein the result request message includes the retrieval identifier which is same as the retrieval identifier included in the corresponding retrieval inquiry message, and wherein the transmitting the retrieval result includes selecting the retrieval result based on the retrieval identifier among a plurality of retrieval results.
