Abstract

A system and method for data communication connecting on-line networks with on-line and off-line computers. The present system provides for broadcast of up to the minute notification centric information thereby providing an instant call to action for users who are provided with the ability to instantaneously retrieve further detailed information. The notification centric portions of information is wirelessly broadcast to wireless receiving devices which are attached to computing devices. Upon receipt of the information at the personal computer, the user is notified through different multimedia alerts that there is an incoming message. Wirelessly broadcasted URL'"'"'s, associated with the data, are embedded in data packets and provide an automated wired or wireless connection back to the information source for obtaining detailed data.

82. A method for transmitting data to selected remote computing devices, comprising the steps of:

receiving data at a central broadcast server from an information source;

preprocessing the data at the central broadcast server, further comprising the step of parsing the data with one or more parsers corresponding to the central broadcast server;

transmitting the data to an information gateway for building data blocks and assigning addresses to the data blocks;

transmitting the data blocks from the information gateway to a transmission gateway for preparing the data blocks for transmission to receivers;

transmitting preprocessed data to receivers communicating with the computing devices; and

notifying the computing devices of receipt of the preprocessed data whether the computing devices are online or offline from a data channel associated with each computing device.

The method of claim 82, wherein the step of transmitting the data to the information gateway for building data blocks and assigning addresses to the data blocks, further comprises the step of building data blocks and assigning addresses to the data blocks based on information in a subscriber database.

84. The method of claim 82, wherein the step of transmitting preprocessed data to receivers communicating with the computing devices further comprises the step of wirelessly transmitting the preprocessed data to the receivers.

85. The method of claim 84, wherein the step of wirelessly transmitting the preprocessed data to the receivers further comprises the step of transmitting the preprocessed data utilizing a digital carrier, a cellular carrier, a GSM carrier or a PCS carrier.

86. The method of claim 82, wherein the step of transmitting preprocessed data to receivers communicating with the computing devices, further comprises the step of transmitting the preprocessed data to the receivers by wired transmission.

87. The method of claim 82, wherein the central broadcast server comprises a network of servers used for the preprocessing.

88. The method of claim 82, wherein the data channel comprises an established connection via the Internet between the computing device and an information source associated with the preprocessed data.

89. The method of claim 82, wherein the step of notifying the computing devices further comprises the step of providing a visual alert to notify the users of the computing devices of the receipt of the preprocessed data.

90. The method of claim 82, wherein the step of notifying the computing devices further comprises the step of providing an audio alert to notify the users of the computing devices of the receipt of the preprocessed data.

The method of claim 82, wherein the step of notifying the computing devices further comprises the step of providing at least one of a visual alert or a audio alert to notify the users of the computing devices of the receipt of the preprocessed data, wherein the alert is related to the content of the preprocessed data.

92. The method of claim 89, wherein the visual alert is displayed within an alert panel.

93. The method of claim 89, wherein the visual alert, when activated, causes a viewer associated with the preprocessed data to launch.

94. The method of claim 89, wherein the visual alert, when activated, allows the display of data.

95. The method of claim 94, wherein the activation of the visual alert allows the display of data that further comprises contextual graphics in a predefined format.

96. The method of claim 95, wherein the display of data is made within a viewer associated with the preprocessed data.

97. The method of claim 96, wherein the viewer is for viewing information relating to news, sports, financial markets, weather, an online chat, or an online forum.

98. The method of claim 96, wherein the display of data further comprises the display of an advertisement or an Internet address location of an advertisement.

99. The method of claim 89, wherein the visual alert, when activated, causes an Internet browser to launch and establish a connection via the Internet between the computing device and an information source associated with the preprocessed data.

100. The method of claim 99, where the connection comprises at least one wireless connection.

101. The method of claim 89, wherein the visual alert, when activated, causes a viewer associated with the preprocessed data to launch.

102. The method of claim 101, wherein the launch of the viewer establishes a connection via the Internet between the computing device and an information source associated with the preprocessed data.

103. The method of claim 102, wherein the connection comprises at least one wireless connection.

104. The method of claim 82, wherein the preprocessed data comprises information relating to news, sports, financial markets, weather, an online chat, or an online forum.

105. The method of claim 82, wherein the preprocessed data comprises an Internet address location.

106. The method of claim 105, wherein the Internet address location further comprises a Uniform Resource Locator for providing an automatic connection back, via the Internet, to an information source associated with the preprocessed data.

107. The method of claim 106, wherein the connection comprises at least one wireless connection.

108. The method of claim 82, wherein the preprocessed data further comprises an advertisement or an Internet address location of an advertisement.

109. The method of claim 82, wherein the preprocessed data further comprises information concerning the installation, activation, deactivation, or updating of one or more viewers.

110. The method of claim 82, wherein the central broadcast server comprises a network of servers used for the preprocessing and the transmission to receivers is made wirelessly.

111. The method of claim 110, wherein the data channel comprises an established connection via the Internet between the computing device and an information source associated with the preprocessed data.

112. The method of claim 111, wherein the step of notifying the computing devices further comprises the step of providing a visual alert to notify the users of the computing devices of the receipt of the preprocessed data.

113. The method of claim 112, wherein the visual alert, when activated, allows the display of data.

114. The method of claim 113, wherein the display of data is made within a viewer associated with the preprocessed data.

115. The method of claim 114, wherein the display of data further comprises the display of an advertisement or an Internet address location of an advertisement.

116. The method of claim 114, wherein the launch of the viewer establishes a connection via the Internet between the computing device and an information source associated with the preprocessed data.
