Abstract

Systems and methods of the present invention provide for publishing an announcement of a registered domain name and a link to an associated website on a social networking website. A control panel for the registered domain name and associated website may be displayed on a client.

Claims

1. A method comprising the steps of:

a) partnering with a social networking website to publish, on said social networking website, an announcement of a registered domain name and a link to a hosted website associated with said registered domain name, said social networking website hosted on a first server computer and said hosted website hosted on a second server computer, each server communicatively coupled to a network;

b) displaying, on a client, communicatively coupled to said network, a control panel for said registered domain name and said hosted website, said control panel comprising;

i) means for obtaining permission to publish said announcement and said link; and

ii) means for setting a delay period after which to publish said announcement and said link;

c) publishing said announcement and said link after an expiration of said delay period;

d) monitoring a metric for traffic generated by said link to said hosted website; and

e) recommending a product for increasing said metric.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said hosted website is hosted in a data center of a domain name registrar.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said announcement and said link are published on a company page for a domain name registrar.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said announcement and said link are published on a personal page for a domain name registrant.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said control panel comprises an option to publish said announcement and said link on both a company page for a domain name registrar and a personal page for a domain name registrant using a username provided by said domain name registrant.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein said hosted website is a parked domain page.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein said control panel comprises an option to immediately generate traffic, via said link, for said parked domain page.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein said metric is used to gauge the success of said parked domain page.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein said means for obtaining permission comprises a fee for said announcement and said link.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein said control panel comprises access to an API for said social networking site, thereby synchronizing said control panel with said API.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein said control panel comprises an option to purchase said product for increasing said metric.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein said delay period expires immediately after a registration of said registered domain name.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein publishing of said announcement and said link occur after a confirmation of said expiration of said delay period.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein said confirmation is accomplished via sending said confirmation to a contact for a domain name registrant.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein an announcement of a new development is published on a personal page for a domain name registrant.

16. The method of claim 1 wherein said traffic metric is accomplished via a registrar or a host linking to said registered domain name using a 301 redirect.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein said 301 redirect allows said registrar or said host to count one or more click-throughs.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein said click-throughs reflected in said metric allow said registrar or said host to gauge the success of said link to said hosted website.

19. The method of claim 1 wherein said recommended product is based on the success of the distribution of said announcement and said link.
