Abstract

A method for inputting a text and a display apparatus using the same are provided, the text input method including: transferring a message for requesting execution of a text input mode to an external device; receiving the text from the external device; and displaying the received text if it is determined that a situation in which a text is to be input occurs. Therefore, if a situation in which a text is to be input occurs, an external device automatically operates in a text input mode, and thus a user more conveniently inputs the text.

Claims

1. A method for inputting text to a display apparatus, the method comprising:

in response to determining, by the display apparatus, that a situation in which text is to be input occurs, transferring, by the display apparatus, a message for requesting execution of a text input mode to an external device;

receiving the text from the external device; and

displaying the received text.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

determining whether the situation in which the text is to be input ceases; and

if it is determined that the situation ceases, transferring a message for requesting termination of the text input mode to the external device.

3. The method as claimed in claim 2, wherein the situation in which the text is to be input ceases when a text input box which displays the received text disappears or when the text input box is inactivated.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the situation in which the text is to be input occurs when a text input box on a web page, a menu screen, a content browser screen, or a setup screen displayed on a display is activated.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the displaying the received text comprises ignoring previously received text, and only displaying most recently received text.

6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the display apparatus is a broadcast receiving apparatus which receives and displays broadcasting data, and the external device performs operations independent of the broadcast receiving apparatus.

7. The method as claimed in claim 6, further comprising:

in response to a command received from a remote controller of the broadcast receiving apparatus, distinct from the external device, during the receiving the input text and the displaying the received text, performing the received command together with the receiving the input text and the displaying the received text.

8. A computer readable recording medium having recorded thereon a program executable by a computer for performing the method of claim 1.

9. A display apparatus, comprising:

a display;

a communication unit which is connected to an external device for communication; and

a controlling unit which controls the communication unit to transfer a message for requesting execution of a text input mode to an external device in response to determining that a situation in which text is to be input occurs, and which controls the display to display the text if the text input through the external device is received by the communication unit.

10. The display apparatus as claimed in claim 9, wherein the controlling unit controls the communication unit to transfer a message for requesting termination of the text input mode to the external device if it is determined that the situation in which the text is to be input ceases.

11. The display apparatus as claimed in claim 10, wherein the situation in which the text is to be input ceases when a text input box which displays the received text disappears or when the text input box is inactivated.

12. The display apparatus as claimed in claim 9, wherein the situation in which the text is to be input occurs when a text input box on a web page, a menu screen, a content browser screen, or a setup screen displayed on the display is activated.

13. The display apparatus as claimed in claim 9, wherein the controlling unit controls the display to only display a most recently received text from among text that is received from the external device.

14. The display apparatus as claimed in claim 9, further comprising a broadcast receiving unit which receives broadcasting data to be displayed on the display,

wherein the external device performs operations independent of the broadcast receiving unit.

15. The display apparatus as claimed in claim 14, wherein in response to a command received from a remote controller of the broadcast receiving unit, distinct from the external device, during the receiving of the text through the communication unit and the displaying of the received text on the display unit, the controlling unit controls the broadcast receiving unit according to the received command during the receiving of the text and the displaying of the received text.

16. A method for inputting text to be displayed on a display apparatus, the method comprising:

determining, by an external device distinct from the display apparatus, whether a first message is received from the display apparatus, the first message indicating that a situation in which the text is to be input occurs;

converting a current mode of the external device into a text input mode in response to determining that the first message is received; and

transferring the text input to the external device in the text input mode to the display apparatus.

17. The method as claimed in claim 16, wherein the text input mode comprises a mode for providing a keyboard for inputting the text as a graphic on the external device.

18. The method as claimed in claim 16, further comprising:

determining, by the external device, whether a second message is received from the display apparatus, the second message indicating that the situation in which the text is to be input ceases; and

returning to a mode prior to the text input mode in response to determining that the second message is received.

19. The method as claimed in claim 16, wherein the transferring the text comprises transferring the text whenever each character of the text is input.

20. The method as claimed in claim 19, wherein the transferring the text whenever each character of the text is input comprises transferring only a most recently input character of the text whenever each character is input, or transferring all of the characters of the text which have been input whenever each character is input.

21. The method as claimed in claim 16, wherein the transferring of the text comprises transferring the text in response to a determination that all characters of the text are completely input.

22. A computer readable recording medium having recorded thereon a program executable by a computer for performing the method of claim 16.

23. A mobile device, comprising:

a communication unit which is communicably linked to a display apparatus;

a touchscreen which displays visual data of the mobile device and which receives an input from a user; and

a controlling unit which controls the touchscreen to convert from a current operating mode into a text input mode in response to the communication unit receiving, from the display apparatus, a first message indicating that a situation in which text is to be input to the display apparatus occurs, and which controls the communication unit to transfer the text input through the touchscreen in the text input mode to the display apparatus.

24. The mobile device as claimed in claim 23, wherein the text input mode is a mode for providing a keyboard for inputting the text as a graphic on the touchscreen.

25. The mobile device as claimed in claim 23, wherein the controlling unit controls the touchscreen to return to the current operating mode from the text input mode in response to the communication unit receiving a second message indicating that the situation in which the text is to be input ceases.

26. The mobile device as claimed in claim 23, wherein the controlling unit controls the communication unit to transfer the text whenever each character of the text is input.

27. The mobile device as claimed in claim 23, wherein the controlling unit controls the communication unit to transfer the text in response to a determination that all characters of the text are completely input.

28. A system for inputting and displaying text, the system comprising:

a display apparatus comprising;

a display,

a first wireless communication unit which transmits and receives messages, and

a first controlling unit which controls the communication unit to transmit a message for requesting execution of a text input mode in response to determining that a situation in which text is to be input occurs, and which controls the display to display the text if the text is received through the communication unit; and

a mobile device, comprising;

a second wireless communication unit which wirelessly communicates with the display apparatus,

a touchscreen to display visual data of the mobile device and to receive an input from a user, and

a controlling unit which controls the touchscreen to convert from a current operating mode into the text input mode in response to determining that the wireless communication unit receives, from the display apparatus, the message indicating that the situation in which the text is to be input to the display apparatus occurs, and which controls the wireless communication unit to transfer the text input through the touchscreen in the text input mode to the display apparatus.
