Abstract

A shortcut icon display method and a mobile device adapted to the method are provided. The method includes displaying, if a group icon including at least two icons is selected, at least two icons included in the group icon, and performing a function corresponding to a selected one of at least two displayed icons. The method displays a number of icons on a screen once so that the user can easily select grouped icons.

Claims

1. A data display method for displaying at least one icon in a mobile device comprising a touch screen, in order to select a particular function, the method comprising:

displaying, if a group icon including at least two icons is selected, the at least two icons included in the group icon; and

performing, if one of the at least two icons is selected, a function corresponding to the selected one of the at least two displayed icons.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the displaying of the at least two icons further comprises:

magnifying and displaying, if a selection is made to magnify an icon in the group icon, a selected one of the at least two icons, greater than remaining icons.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

setting, if a group icon setting is selected, a group icon including at least two icons.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the setting of the group icon further comprises:

determining whether a group icon display region where the group icon will be displayed is selected; and

grouping, if a group icon display region is selected, at least two icons in the group icon display region.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the setting of the group icon further comprises:

determining, if a movement of a first icon is detected, whether the first icon is moved to a region where a second icon is located; and

grouping the first and second icons if the first shortcut is moved to a region where the second icon is located.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

ungrouping, if a group icon release is selected, the group icon into at least two icons; and

displaying at least two ungrouped icons in their locations, respectively.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein the magnifying and displaying further comprises, upon user input, successively magnifying and displaying each of the at least two icons.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising performing, if a magnified icon is selected, a function corresponding to the selected magnified icon.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising reducing and displaying the at least two icons smaller than icons not included in a group icon.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein an order of successively magnifying and displaying each of the at least two icons comprises one of an order in which the icons were selected to the group icon, a frequency order of using functions corresponding to the icons, and an order of locations where the icons are displayed in the group icon.

11. A mobile device comprising:

a display unit comprising a touch screen for displaying at least one group icon each of which includes at least two icons; and

a controller for controlling the display unit to display, if a group icon including the at least two icons is selected, the at least two icons included in the group icon, and for performing, if one of the at least two icons is selected, a function corresponding to the selected one of the at least two displayed icons.

12. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein, if a selection is made to magnify an icon in the group icon, the controller controls the display unit to magnify and display a selected one of the at least two icons, greater than remaining icons.

13. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein, upon user input, each of the at least two icons is successively magnified and displayed.

14. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein, if a magnified icon is selected, a function corresponding to the selected magnified icon is performed.

15. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein, if a group icon setting is selected, the controller sets a group icon including the at least two icons.

16. The mobile device of claim 15, wherein, if a group icon display region where the group icon will be displayed is selected on the display unit, the controller groups at least two icons in the group icon display region.

17. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the controller detects a movement of a first icon of icons on the display unit, determines whether the first shortcut icon is moved to a region where a second icon is located, and groups the first and second icons if the first icon is moved to a region where the second icon is located.

18. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein, if a group icon release is selected, the controller ungroups the group icon into at least two icons, and controls the display unit to display at least two ungrouped icons in their locations, respectively.

19. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the at least two icons are reduced and displayed smaller than icons not included in a group icon.

20. The mobile device of claim 17, wherein an order of successively magnifying and displaying each of the at least two icons comprises one of an order in which the icons were selected to the group icon, a frequency order of using functions corresponding to the icons, and an order of locations where the icons are displayed in the group icon.
