Abstract

A system provides music that matches the mood of an e-book when the e-book is read on an e-Reader. The system comprises several sub-components to calculate a user'"'"'s average reading speed, analyze the e-book for moods, match music to each mood, track music played and purchased, record user'"'"'s music preference, and play the matched music based on the user'"'"'s music preference. The moods are indexed as adjectives, adverbs, and onomonopias. A change in mood triggers a change in music played in a wall-to-wall or movie mode. When a user does not have a music preference, the system chooses a default music based on genre, style, and mode based on the analyzed mood. When the system plays music in the movie mode to match a predetermined number of moods, the system fades the music to a pause equal to the predetermined number before resuming the music based on a current mood.

Claims

1. A method for providing music that matches a primary mood of each page of an e-book, comprising:

automatically and without user input, (a) syncing to an e-Reader on which the e-book is loaded when a first page of the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader, wherein syncing comprises recording a unique identifier of the e-Reader;

(b) calculating a user'"'"'s average reading speed for reading the e-book;

(c) analyzing the e-book for moods, wherein each page of the e-book has a primary mood;

(d) combining the primary mood of each page with the user'"'"'s music preference;

(e) matching the music to the primary mood of each page;

(f) finding a source capable of propagating the music matching the primary mood of each page and user'"'"'s music preference;

(g) playing the music propagated from the source, wherein the user is able to purchase the music while the music is playing;

(h) logging the played music; and

(i) logging each purchased music.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein calculating a user'"'"'s average reading speed comprising:

(a) recording a total number of words on the first page of the e-book;

(b) recording a current date/time stamp when the first page of the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader;

(c) recording a total number of words on each subsequent page of the e-book;

(d) recording a date/time stamp when each subsequent page of the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader; and

(e) calculating a difference in the date/time stamp between consecutive pages of the e-book.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein analyzing the e-book for moods comprising:

(a) invoking a special dictionary in a language of the e-book containing only adjectives, adverbs, and onomonopias found in a conventional dictionary in the same language as the special dictionary;

(b) extracting words from the e-book that match the adjectives, adverbs, and onomonopias in the special dictionary;

(c) indexing the extracted words into one of a plurality of moods; and

(d) invoking a priority scheme to determine the primary mood of each page.

The method of claim 3, wherein the plurality of moods is selected from the group consisting of a happy mood, a sad mood, a carefree mood, a dreamy mood, a sleepy mood, a scary mood, an intense mood, a warm mood, a loving mood, an intimate mood, a nostalgic mood, a dark mood, an ominous mood, a creepy mood, and a triumphant mood.

The method of claim 4, wherein the priority scheme is selected from the group consisting of an adjectives only scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the adjective encountered a maximum number of times on the page and wherein if there is more than one adjective encountered a same maximum number of times the primary mood of the page is the adjective in the more than one adjective with a higher priority, an adverbs only scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the adverb encountered a maximum number of times on the page and wherein if there is more than one adverb encountered a same maximum number of times the primary mood of the page is the adverb in the more than one adverb with a higher priority, an onomonopias only scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the onomonopia encountered a maximum number of times on the page and wherein if there is more than one onomonopia encountered a same maximum number of times the primary mood of the page is the onomonopia in the more than one onomonopia with a higher priority, an adjectives outweighing the adverbs scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the adjective encountered a maximum number of times on the page unless an adverb is encountered more times than the adjective encountered the maximum number of times, and an onomonopias outweighing the adjectives and adverbs scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the onomonopia encountered more times than the adjective or adverb encountered a maximum number of times on the page.

The method of claim 1, wherein combining each mood with a user'"'"'s music preference comprises determining a length of the music to be played for a primary mood and determining a mode of the music, wherein the length is dictated by the occurrence of a next primary mood and the mode is wall-to-wall mode or movie mode.

The method of claim 6, wherein when a continuous sequence of a predetermined number of moods is analyzed in the movie mode, the music is played for the predetermined number of moods before the music fades to a pause for a length of time equaling the predetermined number before resuming the music that matches a next primary mood.

The method of claim 6, wherein the music played in the wall-to-wall mode or the movie mode is dictated by the user'"'"'s music preference of music genre, music either with or without lyrics, music from a movie based on the e-book, and music selected by the e-book'"'"'s author, and wherein the user'"'"'s music preference is set prior to turning on the e-Reader or at any time thereafter.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the purchased music is set as a user'"'"'s music preference prior to or at any time when the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader.

10. A system for providing music to match a primary mood of each page of an e-book, comprising:

a first sub-component to send a UID of an e-Reader and a date/time stamp of when the e-book is first loaded on the e-Reader to a second, third, fourth, and fifth sub-components and to update the second, third, and fourth sub-components when the e-Reader is shut down;

a second sub-component to calculate a user'"'"'s average reading speed and to transmit the calculated average reading speed to the fifth sub-component;

a third sub-component to keep track of the user'"'"'s music preference, to search a public or proprietary database for one or more additional preferences associated with the e-book'"'"'s ISBN, and to transmit the user'"'"'s music and one or more additional preferences to the fifth sub-component;

a fourth sub-component to keep track of the music purchased by recording the music'"'"'s UID, ID3, and date/time stamp and to transmit the music purchased to the fifth sub-component;

a fifth sub-component to analyze the e-book for moods, to select a primary mood for each page of the e-book, and to transmit the primary mood, average reading speed, user'"'"'s music and one or more additional preferences, and music purchased to a sixth sub-component; and

a sixth sub-component to match the music to the primary mood, average reading speed, user'"'"'s music and one or more additional preferences, and music purchased and to select a source capable of propagating the music;

11. The system of claim 10 further comprising:

a seventh sub-component to keep a running log of the UID and date/time stamp received from the first sub-component, and the e-book'"'"'s ISBN and user'"'"'s music and one or more additional preferences received from the third sub-component and to transmit the UID, date/time stamp, ISBN, and user'"'"'s music and one or more additional preferences to the fifth sub-component;

an eight sub-component to keep a running log of the music played and purchased by recording the music'"'"'s UID, ID3, and date/time stamp, and to transmit the music played and purchased to the fifth sub-component; and

a ninth sub-component to play the music propagated by the sixth sub-component.

12. A computer-usable medium having computer-readable components and computer executable instructions stored thereon to perform a method for providing music that matches a primary mood of each page of an e-book, comprising:

automatically and without user input, (a) syncing to an e-Reader on which the e-book is loaded when a first page of the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader, wherein syncing comprises recording a unique identifier of the e-Reader;

(b) calculating a user'"'"'s average reading speed for reading the e-book;

(c) analyzing the e-book for moods, wherein each page of the e-book has a primary mood;

(d) combining the primary mood of each page with the user'"'"'s music preference;

(e) matching the music to the primary mood of each page;

(f) finding a source capable of propagating the music matching the primary mood of each page and user'"'"'s music preference;

(g) playing the music propagated from the source, wherein the user is able to purchase the music while the music is playing;

(h) logging the played music; and

(i) logging each purchased music.

13. The computer-usable medium of claim 12, wherein calculating a user'"'"'s average reading speed comprising:

(a) recording a total number of words on the first page of the e-book;

(b) recording a current date/time stamp when the first page of the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader;

(c) recording a total number of words on each subsequent page of the e-book;

(d) recording a date/time stamp when each subsequent page of the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader; and

(e) calculating a difference in the date/time stamp between consecutive pages of the e-book.

14. The computer-usable medium of claim 13, wherein analyzing the e-book for moods comprising:

(a) invoking a special dictionary in a language of the e-book containing only adjectives, adverbs, and onomonopias found in a conventional dictionary in the same language as the special dictionary;

(b) extracting words from the e-book that match the adjectives, adverbs, and onomonopias in the special dictionary;

(c) indexing the extracted words into one of a plurality of moods; and

(d) invoking a priority scheme to determine the primary mood of each page.

The computer-usable medium of claim 14, wherein the plurality of moods is selected from the group consisting of a happy mood, a sad mood, a carefree mood, a dreamy mood, a sleepy mood, a scary mood, an intense mood, a warm mood, a loving mood, an intimate mood, a nostalgic mood, a dark mood, an ominous mood, a creepy mood, and a triumphant mood.

The computer-usable medium of claim 15, wherein the priority scheme is selected from the group consisting of an adjectives only scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the adjective encountered a maximum number of times on the page and wherein if there is more than one adjective encountered a same maximum number of times the primary mood of the page is the adjective in the more than one adjective with a higher priority, an adverbs only scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the adverb encountered a maximum number of times on the page and wherein if there is more than one adverb encountered a same maximum number of times the primary mood of the page is the adverb in the more than one adverb with a higher priority, an onomonopias only scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the onomonopia encountered a maximum number of times on the page and wherein if there is more than one onomonopia encountered a same maximum number of times the primary mood of the page is the onomonopia in the more than one onomonopia with a higher priority, an adjectives outweighing the adverbs scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the adjective encountered a maximum number of times on the page unless an adverb is encountered more times than the adjective encountered the maximum number of times, and an onomonopias outweighing the adjectives and adverbs scheme wherein the primary mood of the page is the onomonopia encountered more times than the adjective or adverb encountered a maximum number of times on the page.

The computer-usable medium of claim 12, wherein combining each mood with a user'"'"'s music preference comprises determining a length of the music to be played for a primary mood and determining a mode of the music, wherein the length is dictated by the occurrence of a next primary mood and the mode is wall-to-wall mode or movie mode.

The computer-usable medium of claim 17, wherein when a continuous sequence of a predetermined number of moods is analyzed in the movie mode, the music is played for the predetermined number of moods before the music fades to a pause for a length of time equaling the predetermined number before resuming the music that matches a next primary mood.

The computer-usable medium of claim 17, wherein the music played in the wall-to-wall mode or the movie mode is dictated by the user'"'"'s music preference of music genre, music either with or without lyrics, music from a movie based on the e-book, and music selected by the e-book'"'"'s author, and wherein the user'"'"'s music preference is set prior to turning on the e-Reader or at any time thereafter.

20. The computer-usable medium of claim 12, wherein the purchased music is set as a user'"'"'s music preference prior to or at any time when the e-book is displayed on the e-Reader.
