Abstract

Advertisement systems and methods are provided for use in connection with notification services or systems. One such method, among others that are disclosed, can be practiced by performing at least the following steps: (a) monitoring travel data associated with a mobile thing; (b) contacting a party based upon the travel data; (c) providing an advertisement to the party during the contact; and (d) charging a fee for or otherwise monetarily benefiting from providing the advertisement.

Claims

1. A method for advertising in connection with a computer based notification system, comprising:

(a) offering an advertisement service and a notification service;

(b) in connection with the notification service;

(1) monitoring travel data associated with a mobile thing;

(2) determining that a notification should be made, based upon the travel data and upon the relationship of the mobile thing to a location; and

(3) providing a notification communication when the mobile thing is near the location;

(c) in connection with the advertisement service;

(1) charging a fee for or monitarily benefiting from providing an advertisement during a notification; and

(2) providing an advertisement as part of or accompanying the notification communication.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the fee is added on to a fee for a travel or shipment service.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of charging a fee for each advertisement.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing a discount on the advertisement service based upon a purchase of a predetermined number of advertisements.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of charging a fee for providing the notification service.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

charging a notification fee for the notification service;

discounting the notification fee when a party to be notified has expressed an interest in receiving the advertisement service during the notification.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the advertisement is a voice message.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the advertisement is an electronic image produced on a display device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the advertisement is a text message.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein a notification is an electronic image and wherein the advertisement electronic image and the notification electronic image share a screen on the display device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the advertisement relates to the offering for sale of an item near where the mobile thing resides or will travel.

12. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

accessing a plurality of stored advertisements; and

selecting the advertisement based upon the travel data.

13. A method for providing notice to a party regarding travel status of a mobile thing (MT) as well as advertising, comprising the steps of:

(a) monitoring travel data associated with the MT;

(b) contacting a party based upon the travel data; and

(c) providing an advertisement to the party substantially during the contact; and

(d) charging a fee or monitarily benefiting from providing the advertisement.

14. A method, comprising:

(a) enabling a party to indicate a willingness to receive one or more advertisements during a notification regarding a mobile thing;

(b) providing a notification communication involving travel status of the mobile thing; and

(c) providing an advertisement as part of or accompanying the notification communication; and

(d) charging a fee or monitarily benefiting from providing the advertisement.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising the steps of:

charging a fee or monetarily benefiting from providing the notification communication;

providing a discount based upon the party'"'"'s willingness to receive the one or more advertisements.

16. A computer based notification system, comprising:

means for monitoring travel data associated with a mobile thing (MT);

means for initiating a communication session with a personal communication device (PCD) based upon the travel data; and

means for providing an advertisement to the PCD during the communication session.

17. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for charging a fee or for monitarily benefiting from providing the advertisement.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the advertisement advertises a change in change associated with a pickup or delivery task and further comprising a means for enabling the party to change the pickup or delivery task.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the change is a discount in cost associated with the pickup or delivery task.

20. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for enabling the party to communicate a request during the communication session for directions to a site advertised in the advertisement.

21. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for selecting the advertisement based upon a stop location associated with the MT.

22. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for selecting the advertisement based upon a location associated with the PCD.

23. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for selecting the advertisement based upon timing information associated with something advertised in the advertisement and the timing of the notification session.

24. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for selecting the advertisement based upon personal profile information pertaining to a party associated with the PCD.

25. The system of claim 16, wherein the advertisement includes a discount image of a discount coupon.

26. The system of claim 16, wherein the advertisement includes a discount code to be communicated by a user to a business establishment in order to obtain a discount.

27. The system of claim 16, wherein the advertisement advertises a retail establishment and further comprising a means for communicating a waiting time of the retail establishment during the communication session.

28. The system of claim 16, further comprising a means for enabling a party to indicate a willingness, prior to the communication session, to receive the advertisement during communication session.
