Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing real-time widgets in a web application framework is described. In one embodiment, the method includes storing a topic in a framework widget. The method may also include receiving a data message, at a user computer system, from a message broker of a real-time web applications framework corresponding to the topic. In one embodiment, the method may also include executing one or more callback functions, specified by the framework widget, to process the data message in response to receiving the data message.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

storing a topic in a memory associated with a framework widget;

receiving a data message, at a user computer system, from a real-time web applications framework corresponding to the topic; and

executing one or more callback functions, specified by the framework widget, to process the data message in response to receiving the data message.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

the framework widget displaying the data message after the data message has been processed by the one or more callback functions.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

storing pointers in a framework widget, the pointers pointing to applications code in a real-time web application framework; and

receiving the web application code dynamically injected into the framework widget from a middleware of the real-time web application framework as the framework widget is delivered to a client.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the web application code is a snippet of client-side scripting language logic that interfaces with a client.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the data message is received from the message broker in real-time without being requested by the framework widget.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the topic is an abstraction of a messaging queue.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the messaging queue is an application layer protocol for message exchange middleware.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the framework widget is embedded in a web page displayed in a web browser by user computer system.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the framework widget receives the data message from a framework socket that connects the framework widget to the message broker.

10. A computer readable storage medium that provides instructions, which when executed on a processing system cause the processing system to perform a method comprising:

storing a topic in a memory associated with a framework widget;

receiving a data message, at a user computer system, from a real-time web applications framework corresponding to the topic; and

executing one or more callback functions, specified by the framework widget, to process the data message in response to receiving the data message.

11. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10, further comprising:

the framework widget displaying the data message after the data message has been processed by the one or more callback functions.

12. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10, further comprising:

storing pointers in a framework widget, the pointers pointing to applications code in a real-time web application framework; and

receiving the web application code dynamically injected into the framework widget from a middleware of the real-time web application framework as the framework widget is delivered to a client.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12, wherein the web application code is a snippet of client-side scripting language logic that interfaces with a client.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the data message is received from the message broker in real-time without being requested by the framework widget.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the topic is an abstraction of a messaging queue.

16. The computer readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the messaging queue is an application layer protocol for message exchange middleware.

17. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the framework widget is embedded in a web page displayed in a web browser by user computer system.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 10, wherein the framework widget receives the data message from a framework socket that connects the framework widget to the message broker.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the processor is further to store pointers in a framework widget, the pointers pointing to applications code in a real-time web application framework, and receive the web application code dynamically injected into the framework widget from a middleware of the real-time web application framework as the framework widget is delivered to a client.

19. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a processor coupled with the memory to

store a topic in a memory associated with a framework widget;

receive a data message, at a user computer system, from a real-time web applications framework corresponding to the topic; and

execute one or more callback functions, specified by the framework widget, to process the data message in response to receiving the data message.
