Abstract

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for providing real-time, two-way transactional capabilities on the Web. Specifically, one embodiment of the present invention discloses a method for enabling object routing, the method comprising the steps of creating a virtual information store containing information entries and attributes associating each of the information entries and the attributes with an object identity, and assigning a unique network address to each of the object identities. A method is also disclosed for enabling service management of the value-added network service, to perform OAM&P functions on the services network

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web, said method comprising the steps of:

instructing a Web server to hand over a request to find and retrieve a Point-of-Service application;

providing a choice of Point-of-Service applications by category available for retrieval;

connecting to the on-line service over the Web, wherein the on-line service delivers the selected Point-of-Service application for purchase or loan;

delivering said particular Point-of-Service application in real-time to the multi-media device across a service network over the Web.

The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said particular Point-of-Service application over the Web is chosen from games, productivity, music, social networking, learning and reference, design and publishing, finance, audio, organization, photography, utilities, video production, Web design, human resources, payroll processing, purchasing a car, processing a loan, any-to-any communication, cooperating service providers delivering on-line services, financial services, checking account, savings account, documents, spreadsheets, photos, lifestyle, restaurant, pizza, car dealership, books, ecommerce, banking, entertainment, multi-media messaging, conferencing, billing, security, fault management, configuration management, performance management, risk management, control over user'"'"'s environment at home or at work, control over home entertainment, control over business environment, any commercial or other application, gift cards, check an order, track shipment, see order status, return items, add a message, custom configurations, personalized greeting, shop online, stocks, calendar, camera, maps, weather, HD video recording, video calling, seeing friends and talking to them, use multiple applications at the same time, being able to browse and write email and watch a movie and photos all on a multi-touch screen, connecting to work, business applications, interactive presentation, self-service check-in, rental service for entertainment, retail, hospitality, tourism, travel, transportation, logistics, healthcare, access files from corporate network, review and edit office documents, record and track business information, log, process and share information, business intelligence information made visual and actionable, record voice memos, online meetings with colleagues, organize notes and media, create and deliver presentations, manage patient prescriptions, connect to hospital'"'"'s electronic health records, and audiobooks.

3. The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said request is handed over to an exchange from a Web application.

The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said category includes education, business, inter-merchant services, intra-merchant services, web advertising, HD TV shows or TV movies over the Web.

5. The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said Point-of-Service application is available for buying or selling over the Web.

6. The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said Point-of-Service application is multi-media and operates over the Web.

7. The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said Point-of-Service application is selected from a plurality of vertical services.

18. The computer-implemented method for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 1, wherein said Point-of-Service application is available for playing or billing over the Web.

8. A system for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web, said system comprising:

a server comprising memory and a processor,

a network entry point component capable of instructing a Web server to hand over a request to find and retrieve a Point-of-Service application;

a display component displaying a choice of available Point-of-Service applications by category available for retrieval;

an exchange component connecting to the on-line service over the Web, wherein the on-line service delivers the selected Point-of-Service application for purchase or loan;

a switching component delivering said particular Point-of-Service application in real-time to the multi-media device across a service network across the Web upon payment in real-time.

11. The system for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 8, wherein said category includes education, business, inter-merchant services, intra-merchant services, web advertising, HD TV shows or TV movies over the Web.

12. The system for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 8, wherein said Point-of-Service application is available for buying or selling over the Web.

13. The system for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 8, wherein said Point-of-Service application is multi-media and operates over the Web.

14. The system for delivering Point-of-Service applications to any multi-media device over the World Wide Web of claim 8, wherein said Point-of-Service application is selected from a plurality of vertical services.

15. An e-commerce web application service network portal operated by a Web merchant, delivering Web applications to any multi-media device, said portal comprising:

a Point-of-Service application provided on a Web page by a Web merchant;

a portal allowing access to said Point-of-Service application, said Point-of-Service application allowing a user to find and retrieve a Web application;

a Web server, comprising memory and a processor, instructed to hand over a request to find and retrieve said Web application;

a display component listing a choice of Web applications by category available for retrieval;

an exchange component connecting to the on-line service over the Web, wherein the on-line service delivers the selected Web application for purchase or loan in real-time;

a switching component delivering upon payment in real-time said particular Web application in real-time to the multi-media device across a service network across the Web.

The switching component of the e-commerce web application service network portal operated by the Web merchant, delivering Web applications to any multi-media device of claim 15, wherein said switching component comprises a routing switch within the application layer of the OSI model to perform application layer routing.

17. The exchange component of the e-commerce web application service network portal operated by the Web merchant, delivering Web applications to any multi-media device of claim 15, wherein said exchange component receives a handoff message from the Web server when a user requests said particular Web application to be retrieved.
