Abstract

A method is performed at a multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display. The touch-sensitive display includes a touch area with a first touch area border region and a second touch area border region that is distinct from the first touch area border region. The device displays a current portion of an electronic document. The device detects a first contact at the first touch area border region and also detects movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region. The device displays a next portion of the electronic document in response to detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region.

Claims

1. A portable multifunction device, comprising:

a touch-sensitive display, wherein the touch-sensitive display includes a touch area with a first touch area border region and a second touch area border region that is distinct from the first touch area border region;

one or more processors;

memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for;

displaying a current portion of an electronic document;

detecting a first contact at the first touch area border region;

detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region; and

in response to detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region, displaying a next portion of the electronic document.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the first touch area border region is located on a first side of the touch area and the second touch area border region is located on a second side of the touch area, the second side of the touch area being adjacent to the first side of the touch area.

The device of claim 1, wherein the first touch area border region is located on a first side of a corner of the touch area and the second touch area border region is located on a second side of the corner of the touch area, the second side of the corner being adjacent to the first side of the corner.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the first touch area border region lies within a first predefined distance from a corner of the touch area and the second touch area border region lies within a second predefined distance from the corner of the touch area.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the first contact is detected within a predefined distance from a corner of the touch area.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the movement of the first contact is detected within a predefined distance from a corner of the touch area.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein detecting movement of the first contact comprises detecting movement of the first contact in compliance with one or more conditions, the one or more conditions including that the first contact touches the second touch area border region within a predefined distance from a corner of the touch area.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein detecting movement of the first contact comprises detecting movement of the first contact in compliance with one or more conditions, the one or more conditions including that the movement occurs entirely within a predefined portion of the display that includes a corner of the touch area.

9. The device of claim 1, wherein the movement of the first contact is detected within a predefined area of the touch area.

10. The device of claim 1, wherein the movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region is detected within a predefined time.

11. The device of claim 1, including instructions for:

detecting a second contact at the second touch area border region;

detecting movement of the second contact from the second touch area border region to the first touch area border region; and

,

in response to detecting movement of the second contact from the second touch area border region to the first touch area border region, displaying a previous portion of the electronic document.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the second contact is detected within a predefined distance from a corner of the touch area.

13. The device of claim 11, wherein the movement of the second contact is detected within a predefined distance from a corner of the touch area.

14. The device of claim 11, wherein detecting movement of the second contact comprises detecting movement of the second contact in compliance with one or more conditions, the one or more conditions including that the second contact touches the first touch area border region within a predefined distance from a corner of the touch area.

15. The device of claim 11, wherein detecting movement of the second contact comprises detecting movement of the second contact in compliance with one or more conditions, the one or more conditions including that the movement occurs entirely within a predefined portion of the display that includes a corner of the touch area.

16. The device of claim 11, wherein the movement of the second contact is detected within a predefined area of the touch area.

17. The device of claim 11, wherein the movement of the second contact from the second touch area border region to the first touch area border region is detected within a predefined time.

18. A method, comprising:

at an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display, the touch-sensitive display including a touch area with a first touch area border region and a second touch area border region that is distinct from the first touch area border region;

displaying a current portion of an electronic document;

detecting a first contact at the first touch area border region;

detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region; and

in response to detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region, displaying a next portion of the electronic document.

19. A graphical user interface on a portable multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display, wherein the touch-sensitive display includes a touch area with a first touch area border region and a second touch area border region that is distinct from the first touch area border region, a memory, and one or more processors to execute one or more programs stored in the memory, the graphical user interface comprising:

an electronic document;

wherein;

a current portion of an electronic document is displayed;

a first contact is detected at the first touch area border region;

movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region is detected; and

in response to detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region, a next portion of the electronic document is displayed.

20. A computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by a portable multifunction device with a touch-sensitive display, wherein the touch-sensitive display includes a touch area with a first touch area border region and a second touch area border region that is distinct from the first touch area border region, cause the device to:

display a current portion of an electronic document;

detect a first contact at the first touch area border region;

detect movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region; and

,

in response to detecting movement of the first contact from the first touch area border region to the second touch area border region, display a next portion of the electronic document.
