Abstract

Described is a slidable dosimeter sled for a radiation dosimeter.

Claims

1. A device comprising:

a dosimeter sled comprising;

a sled body having a first lateral side and a second lateral side that are parallel to each other; and

one or more optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) sensors,

wherein the one or more of the OSL sensors each comprise an optically stimulated luminescent material (OSLM) and one or more energy compensating filters,

wherein the first lateral side a has a first rail for slidably engaging a first groove in a dosimeter housing and the second lateral side a has a second rail for slidably engaging a second groove in a dosimeter housing to thereby allow the dosimeter sled to be slid into and out of a dosimeter housing of a radiation dosimeter, and

wherein the first lateral side or the second lateral side includes a first tang and first U-shaped detent for engaging a second U-shaped detent and a second tang, respectively, of a sled slider of an OSL reader, thereby allowing the sled slider to pull the dosimeter sled into the OSL reader and return the sled to the dosimeter housing.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein first rail and the second rail of the dosimeter sled each have beveled edges.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the dosimeter sled has an RFID tag mounted on the sled body and wherein the RFID tag has identification information for the sled.

The device of claim 3, wherein the first lateral side of the sled body includes a positioning notch for each respective OSL sensor through which a light beam passes into a photodiode signaling to the reader that the OSL sensor is in the proper position for being read out by the OSL reader and wherein one of the positioning notches also indicates that the RFID tag is in position for communicating with an RFID tag reader that is part of a radiation dosimeter that includes the OSL reader.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein first lateral side of the sled body includes a positioning notch for each respective OSL sensor through which a light beam passes into a photodiode signaling to the reader that the OSL sensor is in the proper position for being read out by the OSL reader.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the dosimeter sled fits into a recess in the dosimeter housing when the dosimeter sled is fully slid into the dosimeter housing.

The device of claim 1, wherein the dosimeter sled has two or more OSL sensors mounted therein and wherein the dosimeter sled has a curved end side to ensure that a circular optical light pipe of the OSL reader is completely blocked when the OSL sensor of the two or more OSL sensors mounted closest to the end side is read by the OSL reader.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein each OSL sensor of the one or more OSL sensors has an exposed side on a first face of the dosimeter sled and a filtered side on a second face of the dosimeter sled.

The device of claim 1, wherein the sled body includes one or more circular openings, wherein each of the circular openings includes a circular ledge at one end thereof, and wherein each of the one or more OSL sensors are mounted in the circular openings so that each of the OSL sensors abut a respective circular ledge.

10. The device of claim 1, wherein the one or more of the OSL sensors each comprise an optically stimulated luminescent material (OSLM) mounted in a first cylindrical cup-shaped filter, and wherein the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter comprises a first energy compensating material.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter comprises aluminum.

12. The device of claim 10, wherein the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter comprises a plastic having metal particles dispersed therein.

13. The device of claim 10, wherein a first OSL sensor of the one or more OSL sensors comprises a second cylindrical cup-shaped filter in which the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter is mounted.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the first cylindrical-cup shaped filter is comprises aluminum and wherein the second cylindrical cup-shaped filter comprises copper.

15. The device of claim 10, wherein the one or more OSL sensors each comprise one or more filter material discs located between the OSLM and a base of the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein a first OSL sensor of the one or more OSL sensors comprises a converter material disc located between the OSLM and the first filter.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the converter material disc comprises high-density polyethylene and wherein there is a conformal disc comprising polyethylene located between the OSLM and the converter material disc.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein a second OSL sensor of the one or more OSL sensors comprises a reference filter material disc comprising polytetrafluoroethylene located between the OSLM and the first filter.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter comprising aluminum.

20. The device of claim 19, wherein OSL sensor comprises a second cylindrical cup-shaped filter in which the first cylindrical cup-shaped filter is mounted.

21. The device of claim 20, wherein the second cylindrical cup-shaped filter comprises copper.

22. The device of claim 1, wherein the dosimeter sled further comprises a fluorescent nuclear track detector (FNTD) mounted in the dosimeter sled.

23. The device of claim 22, wherein the dosimeter sled comprises polyethylene and functions as a converter material for the FNTD.

24. The device of claim 1, wherein the OSLM comprises an Al₂O₃:

C material.

25. The device of claim 24, wherein the Al₂O₃:

C material has a grain size of 30 to 40 nm.

26. The device of claim 1, wherein the device has identification indicia on one face of the dosimeter sled.

27. A device comprising:

a dosimeter sled comprising;

a sled body having a first lateral side and second lateral side that are parallel to each other; and

one or more circular openings through the sled body for mounting respective optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) sensors in the sled body,

wherein the first lateral side a has a first rail for slidably engaging a first groove in a dosimeter housing and the second lateral side a has a second rail for slidably engaging a second groove in a dosimeter housing to thereby allow the dosimeter sled to be slid into and out of a dosimeter housing of a radiation dosimeter,

wherein each of the one or more circular openings include a circular ledge for abutting the respective OSL sensors mounted in the one or more circular openings, and

wherein the first lateral side or the second lateral side includes a first tang and a first U-shaped detent for engaging a second U-shaped detent and a second tang, respectively, of a sled slider of an OSL reader, thereby allowing the sled slider to pull the dosimeter sled into the OSL reader and return the sled to the dosimeter housing.

28. The device of claim 27, wherein first rail and the second rail of the dosimeter sled each have beveled edges.

29. The device of claim 27, wherein the dosimeter sled has two or more circular openings therein and wherein the dosimeter sled has a curved end side to ensure that a circular optical light pipe of the OSL reader is completely blocked when an OSL sensor mounted in the circular opening of the two or more circular openings closest to the curved end side is read by the OSL reader.

30. The device of claim 27, wherein the dosimeter sled includes a RFID tag recess on one face of the dosimeter sled for mounting an RFID tag on one side of the dosimeter sled.

31. The device of claim 27, wherein the dosimeter sled includes a FNTD recess on one face of the dosimeter sled for mounting a fluorescent nuclear track detector (FNTD) on one side of the dosimeter sled.

32. The device of claim 31, wherein the dosimeter sled comprises polyethylene and wherein the dosimeter sled functions as a converter material for the FNTD.

33. The device of claim 27, wherein the device has identification indicia on one face of the dosimeter sled.
