Abstract

A method and apparatus of performing selective internet protocol (IP) selective offload (SIPTO) or local IP access (LIPA) is disclosed. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) receives a broadcast message from a Node-B. Then the WTRU receives a message from the Node-B that SIPTO service, or LIPA service is available for that WTRU. The WTRU then communicates using the SIPTO or LIPA service. A method an apparatus for receiving a paging message for SIPTO or LIPA services is also disclosed. The paging message includes an indicator that indicates that the message is for SIPTO or LIPA communications. The indicator may be a temporary mobile subscriber identity (TMSI) assigned by the network specifically for SITPO or LIPA communications. The indicator may also be a single bit designated to indicate that a paging message is a for SIPTO or LIPA traffic.

Claims

1. A method of operating a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

receiving a broadcast message from a Node-B indicating that selective Internet protocol (IP) traffic off-load (SIPTO) is supported by the Node-B;

receiving a non-access stratum (NAS) message from the Node-B indicating that SIPTO service is available for the WTRU;

communicating using SIPTO service.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the broadcast message is a system information message.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the Node-B is a Home evolved Node B (HeNB).

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the NAS message is an Attach Accept message.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the NAS message is a Tracking area update Accept message.

6. A method of operating a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

communicating with a closed subscriber group (CSG) cell using local internet protocol (IP) access (LIPA);

handing over from the CSG cell to a target cell that does not support LIPA;

deactivating any packet data network (PDN) connection locally with out signaling to a mobility management entity (MME) in the core network.

7. A wireless transmit receive unit comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a paging message including an indication that the paging is for selective internet protocol (IP) off-load (SIPTO) services or local IP access (LIPA) services;

a transmitter configured to send a response to the paging message; and

the receiver further configured to receive an assignment of SIPTO or LIPA bearers.

8. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the WTRU establishes a SIPTO connection on the assigned bearers and maintains non-SIPTO bearers.

9. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the WTRU establishes a LIPA connection on the assigned bearers.

10. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the indicator is a temporary mobile subscriber identity (TMSI) assigned by network for either SIPTO or LIPA communications.

11. The WTRU of claim 10 wherein the TMSI is allocated in a non-access stratum (NAS) message.

12. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the indicator is a core network domain identifier in an radio resource control (RRC) paging message.

13. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the indicator is a single bit designated to indicate that a paging message is for SIPTO or LIPA traffic.

14. The WTRU of claim 7 wherein the assignment of SIPTO or LIPA bearers is received in an RRC message or a NAS message.
