Abstract

This invention relates in one aspect to the treatment of a vascular vessel with a biomaterial. The biomaterial can be a remodelable material that strengthens and/or supports the vessel walls. Additionally the biomaterial can include a variety of naturally occurring or added bioactive agents and/or viable cellular populations.

Claims

53. A method for treating a wall of a vascular vessel, the method comprising injecting into the wall an injectable composition comprising an extracellular matrix hydrolysate and extracellular matrix particles.

54. The method of claim 53 wherein the composition also comprises viable cells.

55. The method of claim 54 wherein the cells are endothelial cells, fibroblastic cells, smooth muscle cells, cardiac muscle cells, multipotent progenitor cells, stem cells, or pericytes.

56. The method of claim 55 wherein the cells are endothelial cells.

57. The method of claim 55 wherein the cells are cardiac muscle cells.

58. The method of claim 55 wherein the cells are multipotent progenitor cells or stem cells.

59. The method of claim 53 wherein the extracellular matrix particles contain at least one retained native growth factor from a source tissue for the particles.

60. The method of claim 59 wherein the growth factor is FGF-2.

61. The method of claim 53 wherein the vascular vessel is a vein or an artery.

62. A method for treating a wall of a vascular vessel, the method comprising injecting into the wall a flowable composition comprising a remodelable extracellular matrix material retaining at least one native growth factor from a source tissue for the extracellular matrix material.

63. The method of claim 62 wherein the composition also comprises viable cells.

64. The method of claim 63 wherein the cells are endothelial cells, fibroblastic cells, smooth muscle cells, cardiac muscle cells, multipotent progenitor cells, stem cells, or pericytes.

65. The method of claim 64 wherein the cells are endothelial cells.

66. The method of claim 64 wherein the cells are cardiac muscle cells.

67. The method of claim 64 wherein the cells are multipotent progenitor cells or stem cells.

68. A method for treating a wall of a vascular vessel, the method comprising injecting into the wall a flowable composition comprising an angiogenic, remodelable extracellular matrix material.

69. The method of claim 68 wherein the composition also comprises viable cells.

70. The method of claim 69 wherein the cells are endothelial cells, fibroblastic cells, smooth muscle cells, cardiac muscle cells, multipotent progenitor cells, stem cells, or pericytes.

71. The method of claim 70 wherein the cells are endothelial cells.

72. The method of claim 70 wherein the cells are cardiac muscle cells.

73. The method of claim 70 wherein the cells are multipotent progenitor cells or stem cells.
