1. A method for adaptive signal alignment in a communications receiver, comprising:

  • applying a first phase shift to a first signal of interest to generate a synchronized signal;

    tapping or splitting the synchronized signal to generate a first phase reference signal;

    tapping or splitting a second signal of interest to generate a second phase reference signal;

    adjusting a value of the first phase shift that is applied to the first signal of interest such that the synchronized signal is driven to be either about 0 degrees in-phase or 180 degrees out-of-phase with the second signal of interest, wherein a process of adjusting the value of the first phase shift that is applied comprises;

    applying a second phase shift to the first phase reference signal to generate a calibrating phase shifted signal,mixing or multiplying the calibrating phase shifted signal with the second phase reference signal to generate a first mixer output,integrating or accumulating the first mixer output to generate a first integrator output,configuring the value of the first phase shift based upon the first integrator output.
