Abstract

Embodiments of the invention include a merchant offer program application, which is downloaded onto a customer computer, and that works in connection with the customer'"'"'s accounts at an institution. The merchant offer program application monitors the websites that the customer views, as well as the content the customer is viewing on those websites, such as the products offered for sale through the website or other information on the website. The merchant offer program provides additional information to the customer, such as special offers that are available for the product being viewed, the identity of other merchants that offer the product or a competing product, advertisements or offers regarding other ancillary products typically sold along with the product being considered, etc. The information sent to the customer can be based not only on the website product being viewed, but on the customer'"'"'s past purchase behavior, account balances, interests, etc.

Claims

1. A system for providing merchant offers, comprising:

a memory device;

a communication device; and

a processing device operatively coupled to the memory device and the communication device, wherein the processing device is configured to execute computer-readable program code to;

receive content information captured by a data capture device in a mobile device;

access account information for a customer from an institution;

determine an offer for the customer based at least in part on the content information received from the data capture device and the account information from the institution; and

provide the offer to the customer.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the content information comprises information about a product or a merchant.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the data capture device comprises an image capture device.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the data capture device comprises a keypad.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the data capture device comprises a scanner.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the data capture device comprises a microphone.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the data capture device comprises a wireless transmitter.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the account information comprises customer transaction information from the institution.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the account information comprises customer profile information from the institution.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the account information comprises relationship information between the customer and the institution.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the account information comprises relationship information between the customer and a merchant providing the product associated with the offer.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the processing device configured to execute computer-readable program code to cause the processing device to determine an offer for the customer is also based at least in part on the relationship the institution has with a merchant providing the product associated with the offer.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein the institution is a financial institution.

14. The system of claim 1, wherein the processing device configured to execute the computer-readable program code comprises executing the computer-readable program code of a merchant offer program application.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein at least a portion of the merchant offer program application is stored in a first memory device associated with the institution;

and wherein the processing device configured to execute the computer-readable program code of the portion of the merchant offer program application stored in the first memory device associated with the institution is a first processing device associated with the institution.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the at least a portion of the merchant offer program application is stored in a second memory device associated with the mobile device;

and wherein the processing device configured to execute the computer-readable program code of the portion of the merchant offer program application stored in the second memory device associated with the mobile device is a second processing device associated with the mobile device.

17. A computer program product for a merchant offer program system operated through a financial institution, the computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium having computer-readable program code portions embodied therein, the computer-readable program code portions comprising:

an executable portion configured for receiving content information captured by a data capture device in a mobile device;

an executable portion configured for accessing account information for a customer from an institution;

an executable portion configured for determining an offer for the customer based at least in part on the content information received from the data capture device and the account information from the institution; and

an executable portion configured for providing the offer to the customer.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the content information comprises information about a product or a merchant.

19. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the data capture device comprises an image capture device.

20. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the data capture device comprises a keypad.

21. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the data capture device comprises a scanner.

22. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the data capture device comprises a microphone.

23. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the data capture device comprises a wireless transmitter.

24. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the account information comprises customer transaction information from the institution.

25. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the account information comprises customer profile information from the institution.

26. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the account information comprises relationship information between the customer and the institution.

27. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the account information comprises relationship information between the customer and a merchant providing the product associated with the offer.

28. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the executable portion configured for determining an offer for the customer is also based at least in part on the relationship the institution has with a merchant providing the product associated with the offer.

29. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the institution is a financial institution.

30. A method for using an integrated merchant offer program for customer shopping, the method comprising:

receiving content information captured by a data capture device in a mobile device;

accessing account information for a customer from an institution;

determining an offer for the customer based at least in part on the content information received from the data capture device and the account information from the institution, through the use of a processing device; and

providing the offer to the customer.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the content information comprises information about a product or a merchant.

32. The method of claim 30, wherein the data capture device comprises an image capture device.

33. The method of claim 30, wherein the data capture device comprises a keypad.

34. The method of claim 30, wherein the data capture device comprises a scanner.

35. The method of claim 30, wherein the data capture device comprises a microphone.

36. The method of claim 30, wherein the data capture device comprises a wireless transmitter.

37. The method of claim 30, wherein the account information comprises customer transaction information from the institution.

38. The method of claim 30, wherein the account information comprises customer profile information from the institution.

39. The method of claim 30, wherein the account information comprises relationship information between the customer and the institution.

40. The method of claim 30, wherein the account information comprises relationship information between the customer and a merchant providing the product associated with the offer.

41. The method of claim 30, wherein determining an offer for the customer is also based at least in part on the relationship the institution has with a merchant providing the product associated with the offer.

42. The method of claim 30, wherein the institution is a financial institution.
