Abstract

A first search result and a second search result and a second search result are received. The first search result represents data in a first data source, and the second search result represents data in a second data source. A source display structure is presented in a first window. The source display structure includes, at least, a representation of the first data source, and a representation of the second data source. The representation of the first data source includes, at least, a first identifier associated with the first data source, and a preview of the first search result. The representation of the second data source includes, at least, a second identifier associated with the second data source. Responsive to a first indication, the first search result is displayed. The first indication is received via a first control associated with the preview of the first search result.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a first search result and a second search result, wherein

said first search result represents data in a first data source, and

said second search result represents data in a second data source;

displaying a source display structure, wherein

said source display structure is presented in a first window,

said source display structure comprises

a representation of said first data source, and

a representation of said second data source,

said representation of said first data source comprises

a first identifier associated with said first data source, and

a preview of said first search result,

said representation of said second data source comprises

a second identifier associated with said second data source; and

responsive to a first indication, displaying said first search result, wherein

said first indication is received via a first control associated with said preview of said first search result.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising

responsive to said displaying said first search result, storing a first user preference associated with said first data source;

and

responsive to a second indication of said first control,

reducing a display of said first search result, and

storing a second user preference associated with said first data source.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising,

responsive to a first indication of a second control associated with said second identifier, displaying a preview of said second search result;

responsive to said displaying said preview of said second search result, storing a third user preference associated with said second data source; and

responsive to a second indication of said second control,

reducing a display of said preview of said second search result, and

storing a fourth user preference associated with said second data source.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein,

said displaying said source display structure further comprises

displaying said representation of said first data source, and

displaying said representation of said second data source in accordance with an order of display priority,

said order of display priority is based on a first user profile associated with a first user, and

said first user profile comprises

said first user preference,

said second user preference,

said third user preference, and

said fourth user preference.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising,

generating said first user profile, wherein

said generating said first user profile further comprises receiving a first set of user characteristics associated with said first user;

and

generating said order of display priority, wherein

said generating said order of display priority further comprises generating said order of display priority based on

said first user profile.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein

said generating said order of display priority further comprises generating said order of display priority based on a second user profile associated with a second user, wherein

said second user profile contains a second set of user characteristics associated with said second user, and

said second set of user characteristics shares a common characteristic with said first set of user characteristics.

7. The method of claim 3, wherein

said displaying said preview of said first search result further comprises displaying said preview of said first search result in a second window;

and

said displaying said preview of said second search result further comprises reducing in said second window said display of said preview of said first search result.

8. The method of claim 3, wherein storing said second user preference further comprises storing chronological index data.

9. The method of claim 3, wherein

said displaying said preview of said first search result further comprises displaying said preview of said first search result in said first window;

and

said displaying said preview of said second search result further comprises reducing in said first window said display of said preview of said first search result.

10. An apparatus, comprising:

a user interface configured to;

receive a first search result and a second search result, wherein

said first search result represents data in a first data source, and

said second search result represents data in a second data source;

display a source display structure, wherein

said source display structure is presented in a first window,

said source display structure comprises

a representation of said first data source, and

a representation of said second data source,

said representation of said first data source comprises

a first identifier associated with said first data source, and

a preview of said first search result,

said representation of said second data source comprises

a second identifier associated with said second data source; and

responsive to a first indication, displaying said first search result, wherein

said first indication is received via a first control associated with said preview of said first search result.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein

said user interface further comprises an interaction recording module configured to, responsive to said displaying said first search result, store a first user preference associated with said first data source;

and

said user interface is further configured to, responsive to a second indication of said first control,

reduce a display of said first search result, and

store a second user preference associated with said first data source.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein

said user interface is further configured to,

responsive to a first indication of a second control associated with said second identifier, display a preview of said second search result;

said interaction recording module is further configured to, responsive to said displaying said preview of said second search result, store a third user preference associated with said second data source; and

said user interface is further configured to, responsive to a second indication of said second control,

reduce a display of said preview of said second search result, and

store a fourth user preference associated with said second data source.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein

said source display structure further comprises

said representation of said first data source, and

said representation of said second data source in accordance with an order of display priority,

said order of display priority is based on a first user profile associated with a first user, and

said first user profile comprises

said first user preference,

said second user preference,

said third user preference, and

said fourth user preference.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, further comprising,

a profiling module configured to

generate said first user profile, by receiving a first set of user characteristics associated with said first user;

and

a display ranking module configured to

generate said order of display priority, wherein said order of display priority is based on said first user profile.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein

said profiling module is further configured to

generate said order of display priority based on a second user profile associated with a second user, wherein

said second user profile contains a second set of user characteristics associated with said second user, and

said second set of user characteristics shares a common characteristic with said first set of user characteristics.

16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein said user interface is further configured to

display said preview of said first search result by displaying said preview of said first search result in a second window;

and

reduce in said second window said display of said preview of said first search result.

17. A computer program product, comprising:

a plurality of instructions, comprising

a first set of instructions, executable on a computer system, configured to receive a first search result and a second search result, wherein

said first search result represents data in a first data source, and

said second search result represents data in a second data source;

a second set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to display a source display structure, wherein

said source display structure is presented in a first window,

said source display structure comprises

a representation of said first data source, and

a representation of said second data source,

said representation of said first data source comprises

a first identifier associated with said first data source, and

a preview of said first search result,

said representation of said second data source comprises

a second identifier associated with said second data source; and

a third set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, responsive to a first indication, display said first search result, wherein

said first indication is received via a first control associated with said preview of said first search result.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, wherein the plurality of instructions further comprises:

a fourth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, responsive to said displaying said first search result, store a first user preference associated with said first data source; and

a fifth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, responsive to a second indication of said first control,

reduce a display of said first search result, and

store a second user preference associated with said first data source.

19. The computer program product of claim 18, wherein the plurality of instructions further comprises:

a sixth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, responsive to a first indication of a second control associated with said second identifier, display a preview of said second search result;

a seventh set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, responsive to displaying said preview of said second search result, store a third user preference associated with said second data source; and

an eighth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, responsive to a second indication,

reduce a display of said preview of said second search result, and

store a fourth user preference associated with said second data source.

20. The computer program product of claim 19, wherein,

said second set of instructions further comprises a ninth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to, display said source display structure, wherein said source display structure further comprises

said representation of said first data source, and

said representation of said second data source, wherein said representation of said second data source is configured in accordance with an order of display priority,

said order of display priority is based on a first user profile associated with a first user, and

said first user profile comprises

said first user preference,

said second user preference,

said third user preference, and

said fourth user preference.

21. The computer program product of claim 20, wherein the plurality of instructions further comprises,

a tenth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to generate said first user profile, wherein

said tenth set of instructions further comprises an eleventh set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured to receive a first set of user characteristics associated with said first user;

and

a twelfth set of instructions, executable on said computer system, configured generate said order of display priority, wherein

said twelfth set of instructions further comprises a thirteenth set of instructions executable on said computer system, configured to generate said order of display priority based on said first user profile.
