Abstract

System for creation and transport of multimedia content flows. The system includes a method for transporting a content flow to a wireless access network for broadcast to devices coupled to the wireless access network. The method includes transmitting a request message to add the content flow to the wireless access network, wherein the request message includes a scheduled delivery time. The method also includes receiving a response message indicating that the content flow will be added to the wireless access network, waiting until the scheduled delivery time, and delivering the content flow to the wireless access network.

74. A method for reserving resources for a multimedia flow in a wireless communication network:

specifying a flow start time in a request message;

specifying a flow end time in the request message;

specifying a flow rate in the request message; and

transmitting the request message to reserve resources for the flow.

75. The method of claim 74, further comprising:

receiving a response message corresponding to the transmitted request message.

76. The method of claim 74, wherein the flow start time and the flow end time are specified in a network time protocol (NTP) format.

77. The method of claim 74, further comprising:

identifying a port associated with the multimedia flow.

78. The method of claim 74, further comprising:

transmitting a remove flow request to remove reservation of the flow.

79. The method of claim 78, wherein the remove flow request is transmitted while the flow is in progress.

80. The method of claim 74, wherein the transmitting comprises transmitting the request message to a broadcast base station.

81. An apparatus for reserving resources for a multimedia flow in a wireless communication network:

means for specifying a flow start time in a request message;

means for specifying a flow end time in the request message;

means for specifying a flow rate in the request message; and

means for transmitting the request message to reserve resources for the flow.

82. The apparatus of claim 81, further comprising:

means for receiving a response message corresponding to the transmitted request message.

83. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein the flow start time and the flow end time are specified in a network time protocol (NTP) format.

84. The apparatus of claim 81, further comprising:

means for identifying a port associated with the multimedia flow.

85. The apparatus of claim 81, further comprising:

means for transmitting a remove flow request to remove reservation of the flow.

86. The apparatus of claim 85, wherein the remove flow request is transmitted while the flow is in progress.

87. The apparatus of claim 81, wherein the means for transmitting comprises means for transmitting the request message to a broadcast base station.

88. A computer program product comprising a computer-readable non-volatile medium storing computer-executable instructions comprising code for:

specifying a flow start time in a request message;

specifying a flow end time in the request message;

specifying a flow rate in the request message; and

transmitting the request message to reserve resources for the flow.

89. The computer program product of claim 88, wherein the instructions further comprise code for:

receiving a response message corresponding to the transmitted request message.

90. The computer program product of claim 88, wherein the flow start time and the flow end time are specified in a network time protocol (NTP) format.

91. The computer program product of claim 88, wherein the instructions further comprise code for:

identifying a port associated with the multimedia flow.

92. A processor for reserving resources for a multimedia flow in a wireless communication network, the processor being configured to:

specify a flow start time in a request message;

specify a flow end time in the request message;

specify a flow rate in the request message; and

transmit the request message to reserve resources for the flow.
