Abstract

A method and system for aggregating user data and providing recommendations for digital content or in conjunction with a social network is disclosed.

Claims

1. A computing cloud comprising:

a social networking system;

a content store that stores metadata generated by a first user interacting with digital content and metadata generated by a plurality of other users interacting with digital content, wherein the first user and plurality of other users are members of a social network established by the social networking system; and

a recommendation engine configured to provide a recommendation for digital content to the first user based upon said metadata generated by a first user interacting with digital content and said metadata generated by a plurality of other users interacting with digital content.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the recommendation for digital content comprises a recommendation for audio content.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the metadata collected for the first user comprises digital fingerprints for audio content and the metadata collected for the plurality of other users comprises digital fingerprints for audio content.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the metadata generated by a first user interacting with digital content comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the first user.

5. A computing cloud comprising:

a social networking system;

a content store that stores a first set of metadata generated by a first user interacting with digital content and a second set of metadata generated by a second user interacting with digital content; and

a recommendation engine configured to provide a recommendation to the first user to add the second user to the first user'"'"'s social network operated by the social networking system, wherein the recommendation is based upon the first set of metadata and the second set of metadata.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the first set of metadata comprises digital fingerprints for audio content and the second set of metadata comprises digital fingerprints for audio content.

7. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the first set of metadata comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the first user.

8. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the second set of metadata comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the second user.

9. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the second set of metadata comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the second user.

10. A method for generating a recommendation, comprising:

storing, by a content store, metadata generated by a first user interacting with digital content;

storing, by the content store, metadata generated by a plurality of other users interacting with digital content;

communicating with a social networking system to obtain social network information for the first user;

identifying a subset of the plurality of other users based upon the social network information for the first user;

providing, by a recommendation engine, a recommendation for digital content to the first user based upon the metadata generated by the first user interacting with digital content and the metadata generated by the subset of the plurality of other users interacting with digital content.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the recommendation for digital content comprises a recommendation for audio content.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the metadata generated by the first user interacting with digital content comprises digital fingerprints for audio content and the metadata generated by the subset of the plurality of other users interacting with digital content comprises digital fingerprints for audio content.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein the metadata generated by the first user interacting with digital content comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the first user.

14. A method for generating a recommendation, comprising:

storing, by a content store, a first set of metadata generated by a first user interacting with digital content;

storing, by a content store, a second set of metadata generated by a second user interacting with digital content;

providing, by a recommendation engine, a recommendation to the first user to add the second user to a social network operated by a social networking system, wherein the recommendation is based upon the first set of metadata and the second set of metadata.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the first set of metadata comprises digital fingerprints for audio content and the second set of metadata comprises digital fingerprints for audio content.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the first set of metadata comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the first user.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the second set of metadata comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the second user.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the second set of metadata comprises metadata collected from a plurality of devices operated by the second user.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein the step of the first user interacting with digital content comprises listening to audio content on a mobile device.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the audio content comprises a song.
