Abstract

A modular impactor head includes a load transfer member, a base, and a locking assembly. The base defines a space sized and configured to receive the load transfer member therein and to constrain movement of the load transfer member relative to the base in a plurality of directions. The locking assembly is sized and configured to constrain movement of the load transfer member with respect to the base in at least one direction such that the load transfer member is fixed to the base.

Claims

1. A modular impactor head, comprising:

a load transfer member;

a base defining a space sized and configured to receive the load transfer member therein and to constrain movement of the load transfer member relative to the base in a plurality of directions; and

a locking assembly sized and configured movement of the load transfer member with respect to the base in at least one direction such that the load transfer member is fixed to the base.

2. The modular impactor head of claim 1, wherein the base includes:

a plurality of sidewalls extending from a bottom wall to define a space in which the load transfer member may be received, at least two of the sidewalls defining slots and the bottom wall defining a cavity sized and configured to receive a locking shaft of the locking assembly.

3. The modular impactor head of claim 2, wherein the locking assembly includes a biasing member sized and configured to be received within the cavity defined by the bottom wall of the base.

4. The modular impactor head of claim 2, wherein the locking shaft defines a slot sized and configured to receive a pin.

5. The modular impactor head of claim 2, wherein a bottom wall of the load transfer member defines a hole side and configured to receive a portion of the locking shaft.

6. The modular impactor head of claim 1, wherein the load transfer member includes protrusions sized and configured to be received within the slots defined by the sidewalls of the base.

7. The modular impactor head of claim 1, wherein the base includes a coupling member extending from the base in an opposite direction with respect to a direction in which the sidewalls extend, the coupling member configured to be engaged by a handle.

8. The modular impactor head of claim 7, wherein the coupling member includes a feature for preventing rotation of the impactor head with respect to the handle.

9. A modular impactor head, comprising:

a load transfer member including a pair of tabs extending from opposite side surfaces of the load transfer member;

a base including a plurality of sidewalls extending from a bottom wall to define a space sized and configured to receive the load transfer member, at least two of the sidewalls defining slots and the bottom wall defining a cavity, the slots sized and configured to slidably receive the tabs extending from the side surfaces of the load transfer member; and

a locking assembly sized and configured to be received within the cavity and to lock the load transfer member to the base.

10. The modular impactor head of claim 9, wherein the locking assembly includes an elongate shaft sized and configured to be received in the cavity, the elongate shaft defining a slot configured to be engaged by a pin.

11. The modular impactor head of claim 10, wherein the locking assembly includes a biasing member sized and configured to be received within the cavity defined by the bottom wall of the base.

12. The modular impactor head of claim 10, wherein a bottom wall of the load transfer member defines a hole side and configured to receive a portion of the elongate shaft.

13. The modular impactor head of claim 9, wherein the load transfer member includes protrusions sized and configured to be received within the slots defined by the sidewalls of the base.

14. The modular impactor head of claim 9, wherein the base includes a coupling member extending in a direction away from the sidewalls, the coupling member for coupling the impactor head to a handle.

15. The modular impactor head of claim 14, wherein the coupling member includes a shoulder and a reduced diameter area.

16. A method, comprising:

inserting a biasing member into a cavity defined by a bottom wall of a body of a modular impactor head, the modular impactor head including a plurality of sidewalls extending from the bottom wall defining a space;

inserting a locking shaft into the cavity;

aligning a tab extending from a surface of a load transfer member with a slot defined by one of the sidewalls;

inserting the load transfer member into the space in a first direction such that the tab is received within the slot; and

sliding the load transfer member in a second direction until the locking shaft is received within a hole defined by the load transfer member.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising inserting a pin into a hole defined by the base such that the pin is received within a slot defined by the locking shaft.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

applying a force to the pin to disengage the pin from the slot defined by the locking shaft;

sliding the load transfer member in a third direction until the tab of the load transfer member is aligned with the slot defined by the sidewall; and

removing the load transfer member from the space defined by the sidewalls.

19. The method of claim 18, further comprising applying a force to an end of the locking shaft to compress the biasing member and to disengage the locking shaft from the hole defined by the load transfer member.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein a coupling member extends from the base of the modular impactor head in an opposite direction with respect to the first direction.
