Abstract

A broadband gateway, which that enables communication with a plurality of devices, handles at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider. The broadband gateway may identify EPG information from service providers. The identified EPG information may be adapted to device attributes such as display resolution, and/or user profiles to generate user-specific EPG information for the corresponding devices. The generated user-specific EPG information may be dynamically configured in response to updates in the identified EPG information, the device attributes and/or the user profiles. The configured user-specific EPG information may be communicated to the corresponding devices, either upon the requests from the devices or by initiation of the broadband gateway, for content selection and/or content scheduling. Advertising content, selected based on analysis of the user behavior and/or the user feedbacks, may be communicated in the user-specific EPG information to the devices to support behavioral marketing.

Claims

1. A method for networking, the method comprising:

in a broadband gateway that enables communication with a plurality of devices, wherein said broadband gateway is operable to handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider;

identifying electronic program guide (EPG) information provided by said at least one corresponding network access service provider;

adapting said identified EPG information to device attributes and/or user profiles for said corresponding plurality of devices to generate user-specific EPG information; and

communicating said generated user-specific EPG information to said corresponding plurality of devices.

The method of claim 1, wherein said at least one physical layer connection comprises a plurality of physical layer connections and said at least one corresponding network access service provider comprises a plurality of corresponding access service providers, and wherein each of said plurality of physical layer connections corresponds to a respective one of said plurality of corresponding access service providers.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein:

said device attributes comprise a display resolution, decoding algorithms supported, power consumption levels, quality of service (QoS), number of program channels supported, and/or bandwidth; and

said user profiles comprise user criteria, user preferences, user behavior and/or user feedbacks.

4. The method according to claim 3, comprising dynamically configuring said generated user-specific EPG information in response to updates for said identified EPG information, updates for said device attributes and/or updates for said user profiles.

5. The method according to claim 4, comprising communicating said configured user-specific EPG information to said corresponding plurality of devices.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein said communication is upon requests from said corresponding plurality of devices.

7. The method according to claim 5, wherein said communication is initiated by said broadband gateway.

8. The method according to claim 5, wherein said plurality of devices displays said corresponding communicated user-specific EPG information for content selection and/or content scheduling.

9. The method according to claim 2, comprising:

analyzing said user behavior and/or said user feedbacks; and

selecting advertising content based on said analyzing.

10. The method according to claim 9, comprising communicating said selected advertising content in said generated user-specific EPG information to said corresponding plurality of devices.

11. A system for networking, the system comprising:

one or more circuits for use in a broadband gateway that enables communication with to a plurality of devices, wherein said broadband gateway is operable to handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider, said one or more circuits being operable to;

identify electronic program guide (EPG) information provided by said at least one corresponding network access service provider;

adapt said identified EPG information to device attributes and/or user profiles for said corresponding plurality of devices to generate user-specific EPG information; and

communicate said generated user-specific EPG information to said corresponding plurality of devices.

The system according to claim 11, wherein said at least one physical layer connection comprises a plurality of physical layer connections and said at least one corresponding network access service provider comprises a plurality of corresponding access service providers, and wherein each of said plurality of physical layer connections corresponds to a respective one of said plurality of corresponding access service providers.

13. The system according to claim 11, wherein:

said device attributes comprise a display resolution, decoding algorithms supported, power consumption levels, quality of service (QoS), number of program channels supported, and/or bandwidth; and

said user profiles comprise user criteria, user preferences, user behavior and/or user feedbacks.

14. The system according to claim 13, wherein said one or more circuits are operable to dynamically configure said generated user-specific EPG information in response to updates for said identified EPG information, updates for said device attributes and/or updates for said user profiles.

15. The system according to claim 14, wherein said one or more circuits are operable to communicate said configured user-specific EPG information to said corresponding plurality of devices.

16. The system according to claim 15, wherein said communication is upon requests from said corresponding plurality of devices.

17. The system according to claim 15, wherein said communication is initiated by said broadband gateway.

18. The system according to claim 15, wherein said plurality of devices displays said corresponding communicated user-specific EPG information for content selection and/or content scheduling.

19. The system according to claim 12, wherein said one or more circuits are operable to analyze said user behavior and/or said user feedbacks and select advertising content based on said analyzing.

20. The system according to claim 19, wherein said one or more circuits are operable to communicate said selected advertising content in said generated user-specific EPG information to said corresponding plurality of devices.
