Abstract

This invention provides a system for operating RFID tags on a single-use connector. The system includes: a first single-use connector configured to receive a first RFID tag and a second single-use connector configured to receive a second RFID tag. The invention also includes a reader placed close to the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag. The reader is configured to: determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are gamma sterilized; determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag were previously used; determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are authentic; and determine if the first RFID tag matches with the second RFID tag.

Claims

1. A system for operating RFID tags on a single-use connector, the system comprising:

a first single-use connector configured to receive a first RFID tag;

a second single-use connector configured to receive a second RFID tag; and

a reader placed close to the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag, wherein the reader is configured to;

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are gamma sterilized; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag were previously used; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are authentic; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag matches with the second RFID tag.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the first single-use connector is gamma sterilized.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the second single-use connector is gamma sterilized.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the first RFID tag is operable with the second RFID tag if:

the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are gamma sterilized;

the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag were not previously used;

the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are authentic; and

the first RFID tag matches with the second RFID tag.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are permanently attached to the single-use connector.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are permanently attached to the single-use connector by molding.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the reader is connected to a computer.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the first and second RFID tags are HF RFID tags.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the first and second RFID tags are UHF RFID tags.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the first and second RFID tags are MF RFID tags.

11. An apparatus for operating RFID tags, the apparatus comprising:

a reader placed close to a first RFID tag with a first single-use connector and a second RFID tag with a second single-use connector, wherein the reader is configured to;

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are gamma sterilized; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag were previously used; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are authentic; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag matches with the second RFID tag.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are in proximity of the reader at a distance in a range of 0.5 millimeters to 20 meters.

13. A system for operating RFID tags on a single-use bioprocess components, the system comprising:

a first single-use bioprocess components configured to receive a first RFID tag;

a second single-use bioprocess components configured to receive a second RFID tag; and

a reader placed close to the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag, wherein the reader is configured to;

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are gamma sterilized; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag were previously used; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag and the second RFID tag are authentic; and

/or

determine if the first RFID tag matches with the second RFID tag.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the first single-use bioprocess component and the second single-use bioprocess component are gamma sterilized.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the gamma sterilization leads to detectable corruption of the RFID tag.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the detectable corruption of the first RFID tag upon gamma sterilization is corrected.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the detectable corruption of the first RFID tag upon gamma sterilization is prevented by using radiation hardened CMOS circuit.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the detectable corruption of the first RFID tag upon gamma sterilization in prevented by using FRAM memory and radiation hardened CMOS circuit.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the detectable corruption of the first RFID tag upon gamma sterilization in prevented by using FRAM memory and algorithms to correct for radiation effects on the operation parameters of the CMOS circuit.

20. The system of claim 16, wherein the detectable corruption of the first RFID tag upon gamma sterilization is prevented by using FRAM memory and algorithms to correct for radiation effects on the operation parameters of the FRAM memory.

21. The system of claim 13, wherein the first RFID tag operates also as an RFID sensor.

22. The system of claim 13, wherein the first RFID tag has at least one sensor input.

23. The system of claim 13, wherein the first RFID tag operates also as an RFID sensor for sensing of one or more parameters such as pressure, temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide, glucose.
